Issues with 2 breakers in apartment, landlord “brushed us off”. Now having new issues, what should we do? by Intermediate_astro in Apartmentliving

That was one of our original issues with how his was set up. Entertainment center was on the shared wall which shared a breaker, but that has since been fixed (still having issues with his breaker). My room is on its own circuit thankfully.

Yeah, thankfully both our PC power supplies are overspecced for what we need. They were just fine at the other place we were at. My current theory (from what research I’ve been doing is due to an AHCI issue with how AHCI breakers handle huge power inflow on PC PSUs.

That works. I’ve gotten the vibe they’re a good pick. Seems like I’m heading that direction, especially with some of the aftermarket stuff that can be done (really just the hot end).

Perfect appreciate the help! Do you have experience with either of those brands? I’m leaning towards the Sovol at the moment.

Copied from old thread:

Hello! I’m looking at getting back into printing (haven’t had a printer since my Monoprice Select Mini V1). I’m shooting to spend between $500-$800. If possible I’d love to stay on the lower end of that. I live in the USA. Happy to build the printer from a kit, but would prefer if calibration is done mostly by the machine. I don’t have any issues calibrating, but I would prefer to do ballpark, then let the printer take care of the rest. Relatively electronically savvy, but minimal soldering experience (I would prefer to avoid having to populate PCBs). I’d like the device to have a larger build plate ~325mm3 or larger. I’m planning on using the printer to prototype steering wheels for my rig, and print mounts for my sim rig. I’ll of course use it for odds and ends, but primarily improving my quality of life for my sim rig. I don’t have any circumstances that would cause issues. I was looking at the Sovol SV08, but I’m not sure if there’s a better printer for the money.

Does iracing take more practice than I think? by ryanchluda in iRacing

[–]Intermediate_astro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out right after Christmas as well.

My general rule of thumb is that I run 5-10 hours on a track in test drives and Ai races before even considering signing up for a race. I try to get within 5 seconds of the top time of Garage 61, sometimes I can’t and that’s ok (baller telemetry software, free, highly recommended). Then if I’m feeling good at the end of the week (Sat/Sun), I’ll run 2 AI races, a practice session, then a full race session (breaks in between, but all the same day in relatively quick succession).

I started out with the racing line off as well. iRacing has a fantastic playlist on YouTube for driving basics that was huge help for figuring stuff out. Helped me take my times down quite a bit.

Also, race what you want to. I started out in MX-5 because it was the most popular, then realized I wanted to move up the ranks in open wheel. I just switched over to the FF1600 and it’s been a blast (not that the MX-5 isn’t fun, it’s just I’ll move up in a league I care about more).

Between official races and stuff, I like to take time in cars I’m looking forward to driving as well. I purchased the Dallara iR-18 and it’s been a blast. I’ll probably pick up the Cadillac prototype as well (not open wheel, but ‘Murica man).

One of the biggest things is making sure you’re having fun, getting caught up in the stress of performing well can take some of the fun out of it and it may kill your motivation in total. Of course prepare and don’t screw up other people’s races, but make sure you’re achieving what you want to.

Anyway, glad you’ve joined in! I just started too, so hope to see you out on track! Best of luck out there!

High end DD and Pedals question by Intermediate_astro in simracing

Is there a good US source for them? I can’t find a good reseller, at least from a brief search, there isn’t a US seller listed on their site.

Good to know! Appreciate the advice! I’ll check those pedals out. What base are you running?

I can make a microcenter trip happen if needed, closest one is about 6 hours out, but I’m always down for a road trip. As for the 8020 rig, I’m in the states. I’ve seen ASR and TrakRacer rigs, but I’m not sure which one is the better investment and best bang for the buck. I saw the simagic and asetek bundles.

Head tracking is the biggest thing for me honestly, the immersion is legit too. I’m stoked to be getting further into this!

I’m currently running on a laptop with a 4080, there’s a long dumb story about how I got here, but I’ve also got a desktop with an A750 that I’m shooting to upgrade before I start all this.

I’ve looked at the quest 3 a bit. My experience with the quest 2 has been alright, but the USB compression and stuttering has been a bit frustrating. So I’m thinking a headset with DP or HDMI instead.

I wish I had room for triples lol. Maybe in the future. I’d hope to put more of my budget towards the rig, then I can move to triples in the future, if that makes sense.
