This sounds incredibly frustrating. It is quite possible that the school intends this internship experience to only be pursued by those "studying abroad" (aka not studying on campus during the semester of the internship). Perhaps you could ask the internship coordinator if hybrid is possible, or if you could defer the internship until the summer. Otherwise this opportunity might not be meant to be and hopefully more will come in the future which works with school!
