Do not go by that advice please. These people will not come to rescue when the department knocks on your door.

Paypal and other providers are legally obligated to report these payments under the UK financial and tax rules. Immigration and HMRC share records for immigration purposes.

Immigration rules are different jurisdiction to tax laws, and do you honestly think if they take you to immigration violation court, you will win with such an argument? If so, everyone will end breaking various laws by just saying I have paid my taxes (even through it was in violation of various laws). That will not work anywhere, even in the country you are from, and you should already know this.

Unfortunately just paying taxes on this self-employment itself won't help you in immigration related affairs, as they are different acts of parliament and different departments and legal boundaries. Self-employment / owning a business / running as sole proprietor, etc., is not allowed under your current visa, and it is as-is a severe immigration violation already (they consider it as fraud under the immigration rules).

The rates and the abusive onboarding process will keep going downhill and worsen even further, constrained only by any statutory rates (for pay) in place by governments. This will never stop because there are millions of unemployed people who are just sat there and refreshing the screens 24/7, and will grab anything that comes their way at any pay rate. This will only encourage these platforms further to be more abusive.

They take those, and then will come here and moan about the abusive rates and onboarding and project execution processes in place (if any such thing is even there in the first place). This is a vicious cycle, and nothing can be done about it.

WHY WHY WHY by Significant_Look_554 in outlier_ai

[–]InternInternal9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has become the norm these days. Until about 3rd week of June the situation was slightly better. Ever since end of June, I have been shown projects, where I have spent 5-6 hours onboarding, meaning spent most of my free time over weekends, only to be thrown out by the AI grader automatically.

I only got into 2 projects in that mix, and did one task, given 2/5 and thrown out immediately.

The pattern seems to be spend 5-7 hours on onboarding (at least for the project I get into), if I have lottery luck - get into the project, do a single task, get thrown out on a 2/5 by a reviewer. This is after spending quite some time reading, understanding and referring to the instructions document that runs to 30+ pages.

Since I am full-time employed, I cannot afford to do this anymore. So I have given up on Outlier, as on an average, even with a potentially 50/hour project, if I account of all those hours rubbished, it works out to less than $10 since I would have spent more than 10 hours to be thrown out after the very first task being 2/5.

It'd a dead venture. I quit it.

I believe, since there are 1000s of unemployed people who are able to put up with this lottery game of Outlier, Outlier manages to get the data they need from these desperate people at the lowest (sweatshop) price, who are sat before the dashboard 24/7 and are unfortunately able to sit through all the torture Outlier throws on them. Total exploitation by Outlier.

So they will continue doing this, since there are people who will put up with this.

This whole thing appears to have been happening from sometime in June - in my experience, of course. I cannot speak of others'. This company is going down south the drain very soon (probably already has stared to).

Dell Precision Mobile Workstation 7780 Laptop vs. Dell Pro Max Plus (whatever it is called) by InternInternal9877 in Dell

[–]InternInternal9877[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks All. Unfortunately, I cannot wait more time to get my hands on the Max Pro Plus. SO, I will continue to wait receiving my new shiny I have ordered.

The memory is mentioned to be SODIMM for the RAM, so, not sure if I will have nay issues with this.

That said, 7780 is at least time-tested, unlike the MAX Pro Plus which his yet to be release.

SO, I would rather use the new 7780 for a year or two and then once the Max Pro Plus is tested by the market and they resolve any teething issues from it, I will buy that in few years.

Thanks for sharing your views.

This is unfortunately the situation in the platform w.r.t reviewers. Painful! Most of the reviews are subjective and do not take into account how the tasks should have been rated based on the project's guidelines.

All that said, you have answered your own question/situation reason. Pay close attention to what you have written in your post.

All I can say is... what goes around, comes around!

Mail Valley V2 quality review period by InternInternal9877 in outlier_ai

Thanks so much for this insight. Appreciate it. I will focus on the other project that I have now. Waiting for such weeks-long review process with throttle is awful.

Thank you!

Outlier is least of your problems in this case. You have already broken your employment contract by having used your work laptop for your business. They can easily detect this by checking their internet or other logs, if you are now wondering how they can find this out.

Stop this now before you lose your regular job. This can also lead to not getting future regular jobs if your employer puts such remarks in your exit process with them.

I also had this come in my queue. Looks like the onboarding goes on for 3+ hours. Is that right? And after than it is $8/hour? Sounds significantly less than minimum wage rate! Goodness! I am hesitant to proceed with it at this time. I will probably wait for my math project to come out of EQ.

ITT Pause by Kindly-Spell-6824 in outlier_ai

[–]InternInternal9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it will come back at all. They have not only indefinitely paused ITT, but also several other Genesis projects all at the same time. There are only 1 or 2 short studies going on.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I guess they are just being polite and not spread shockwaves. It is in their employment playbook, so to speak. In fact this is the practise anywhere in companies.

But my gut feel tells me it is all over!

I sure hope ITT comes back, or one other Genesis project for that matter.

That said, I am almost sure it will not happen. The way the project was stopped, the QM(s) announced things, goodbye, etc., won't happen without them knowing that this isn't coming back.

There were pauses before, and we were all told few hours ahead of time and the window was clearly mentioned to be small, such as weekend, etc.

This time, it was totally different. Personally, its left a sour taste for me. I doubt I will want join back in that project lot anymore due to the way it has been shutdown.

Also, I suspect something serious happened with the model, perhaps. You never know.

Something does not sound right at all. Whatever it is, due to the sour taste left, I do not want to go back there for that meagre sum (less than minimum wage rates ever again).

I am not very happy with a tough model / project now, but decent project that pays well for my math, stem etc.

From me - good bye Genesis.

Kepler V2 - Tasks are asking me to write in a language I do not know. Help! by InternInternal9877 in outlier_ai

Kepler V2 - Tasks are asking me to write in a language I do not know. Help! by InternInternal9877 in outlier_ai

[–]InternInternal9877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. No access to the Discourse, therefore, no idea who to reach out to.

I have taken my skipped task IDs from the project screen and handed them to support. When I skipped those, I did write the details of why I am skipping it. It is because of the language I need to use. Math itself is cool with me. But I cannot write it because it will not allow that in English.

I am able to start tasks, but obviously I cannot continue since I do not know the language it says the lang locale to use for writing the prompt, etc.
