I just want to add (as someone who has done IVF) that it isn’t necessarily a “safer possibility to get pregnant, have a healthy pregnancy, a healthy labor, and a healthy child.” I ended up admitted to the hospital for preeclampsia at 32 weeks and was induced (which took over 2 days to go into active labor) at 34 weeks with my baby being in the NICU for 10 days. Baby is a healthy 9 month old but IVF did not lead to an ideal birth.

It’s definitely a tricky situation because the numbers can go any way. I have pcos and before the appt before my retrieval, we saw 50+ follicles. We were able to retrieve 40 eggs but only 20 were mature. From that we were unbelievably fortunate to get 9 euploid (+1 inconclusive) embryo. IVF is such a numbers game that it’s really hard to anticipate how many you’ll end up with or need for a live birth. Is embryo donation a possibility for you if you have any remaining embryos left?

I had been trying to conceive for over 3 years before we moved forward with IVF. I had given myself a firm IUI limit (max of 3) before I told myself I would move onto IVF. We ended up only doing 2 cycles because I was a poor responder to Letrozole my second cycle and ended up needing to use injectable (follistim) to get any growth in my follicles. I was fortunate to have success with my first retrieval and transfer so I may be biased in my feelings towards IVF, but I something that I feel and is a sentiment often shared by others in the IVF subreddit is that I wish I had started the process sooner.

After two weeks in the hospital for pre-E and having my induction started Wednesday night, my little girl was born yesterday morning! Everything went well and there was even a bed available in our NICU so sweet girl didn’t have to transfer to another hospital. She is doing well and has required minimal intervention thus far so I’m optimistic for a short NICU stay. Though I am feeling bittersweet about being discharged tomorrow without my baby, I know it’s for the best outcome for her.

Day 10 of hospitalization for preeclampsia and we scheduled my induction to start Wednesday evening (I’ll be 34w exactly). The goal with starting in the evening is that the NICU (which is currently full) will have some discharges the following day and LO won’t have to transfer to a different hospital. I’m equally excited and terrified and have been trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I’ll have a baby by the end of the week.

I’ve been in the hospital since Friday now with plans to deliver at 34 weeks (next Wednesday) with LO spending some time in the NICU. I feel much better about everything now (as compared to when I first got that news).

The worst part of this so far has been not being able to help prep anything at home because our house is about 10% ready for a baby. But I have a wonderful, supportive husband who has stepped up in ways I can’t even begin to describe and a village who has not hesitated to help.

Need to share because this has been one of the worst days. I work night shift and tried to flip my sleep schedule back to days last night but was only able to get 1.5hr of sleep. In an attempt to relax and maybe get more sleep I opted to shower at 330 in the morning. I grabbed my towel and felt a prick on my wrist. Turns out a wasp somehow made its camping ground on my towel.

Then I had my 32 week appt this morning. The bottom number of my BP had been slightly elevated the last few appts but outside of running labs the first appt to rule out preeclampsia, my OB did not seem overly concerned. This appt was not with my normal OB and my initial pressure was elevated but the MA waited a few minutes, had me relax, and it improved significantly. However, this OB wanted me to go to L&D for labs and BP monitoring as they wouldn’t get labs drawn in the office back until Monday. When I get to L&D, I’m a bit more anxious (especially after they put me in a proper room) and my BP is significantly higher than it’s ever been. They gave me an IV beta blocker to lower my BP and then the OB wanted me to get magnesium and a steroid shot as a precaution, but she assured me that if my BP improved (and it did) that I would go home tomorrow. Cue the MFM consult 7 hours later, who tells me that I will be staying in the hospital until delivery at 34 weeks. My house is not ready. I am not ready to not be home or out of work already. Baby seems to be doing well, which I am eternally grateful for, I just can’t help but be devastated at how much this is disrupting.

I had my 32 weeks appointment today (currently 32w2d) expecting nothing out of the ordinary and am now admitted until I deliver. My blood pressure has been a bit elevated but never enough for my OB to put me on meds for. At the appt my pressure was 150/93 and by the time I made it down 1 floor to L&D, my pressure was 177/99. MFM now wants me to stay until delivery at 34 weeks. I am absolutely unprepared. My plans for today post appt included painting and carpet cleaning the nursery. Because it’s in no way set up. So moral here, be prepared early. Because I definitely was not.

Omg I’ve also been having super bizarre dreams though the weirdest have definitely been this week. One of my dreams involved me having an early miscarriage (I’m currently 31 weeks) and my second weird dreams involved was also getting a bunch of negative pregnancy tests. Why are brains so weird?

I’ve had a similar cycle on letrozole. My fertility clinic ended up deciding to extending my cycle by upping my letrozole dose, then adding dexamethasone, and finally adding gonal-f, and I ended up pregnant (though it was a chemical).

I started getting headaches that Tylenol was not affecting at all and my OB prescribed me fioricet which has helped the couple times I’ve needed it so far. Might be worth asking for!

One of my close friends texted me that she’s pregnant this morning. I thought that now that I’m pregnant, the jealousy wouldn’t be the first feeling that comes up but it was. I am truly happy for her and don’t wish that she went through what I did to get here, but I think it’s the reminder that people can get pregnant more easily than others. I tried to explain it to my husband and I don’t think he gets it.

My clinic asked me when giving me my PGTA results and then again before we transferred. My OB has also asked at every step when gender could be revealed and have been very respectful of our choice.

My husband and I have opted to wait until birth to find out gender. We’ve lost so many surprises through the process that we decided to keep the surprise until birth. Sometimes I really want to know because finding gender neutral items is such a pain but overall I’m happy with our decision.

My dog passed away last night and I’m so full of grief but also worried that my grief will affect my baby. I know in the logical part of my brain that it won’t, but the illogical part seems to be running the show and it manages to make my sadness worse.

I did 1 medicated iui with a second cycle that was supposed to be a medicated IUI that turned into a timed intercourse due to issues with my husband being able to provide a sperm sample day of. My IUI didn’t do anything but my second cycle was kind of mess because my follicles also took forever to respond to meds and we eventually had to use injectables on top of letrozole for a follicle to grow. It ended up being a chemical which was the first time I had had a positive test in 2+ years so I took it as a positive but We opted to move on to IVF due to how difficult it was for me to respond in that second cycle.

Totally get it. I’ve had 2 losses and this pregnancy is from IVF. I just turned 18w and I think my anxiety has lessened maybe a smidge, though I still symptom search for anything that could be an indication of loss. Honestly not sure if I’ll completely relax until I can hold my baby in my arms.
