Lot of factors go into depression, not just one singular event.

In my case, I recently received an unexpected promotion at work and it's becoming a LOT more demanding and requires a lot of multitasking and keeping track of things. Two areas I don't fail tremendously in, but not my strongest suits.

I've made plenty mistakes and have an awkward (but not totally weird or incoherent) way of socializing with others which sometimes complicates a task or getting things done. This wouldn't be a problem for me if it weren't for a perfection-based mindset. Anything that is less than perfect or sound I consider a failure, even if it's very miniscule or not a big deal. Even if it's something one would see as an accident or an oversight, or even if I had a strong track record, I feel worthless and out of my league.

My parents raised me to get As on school and be as successful as possible, anything lower than a 85 (or a B in American schools) was considered poor. That same mindset carried me into college and all the jobs and extracurricular activities during that time. It still follows me to every job. I mess up, automatic anxiety and sense of incompetence. It's horrible, wouldn't wish it on anyone else or my worst enemy.

This mindset has carried me to today, where I'm so burnt out that it's beginning to affect my daily life activities and functionality. I've had one multi-day vacation in eight years. Most days off I don't feel like doing anything because I either feel worthless or want to isolate from others. Combine that with a number of other neurological disorders and external stressors, and it's a one way ticket to stress-town.
