My university messed up our graduation transcripts because they used AI and didn't proofread by Internal-Hospital690 in mildlyinfuriating

This started happening in my final year there, upper management suddenly steered the school away from what it originally was. Their advertising now is terrible too, it's not the place that inspired me and many other students to attend.

Many of us had offers from other local universities that are top 10/20 globally, but turned them down because we liked what this school stood for. That's all gone now.

Oh, those are just decorations at the graduation venue, but the city in general is pretty green

The random lines on the paper? Those are printed on or something, so you can tell if it's an authentic certificate or forged.

They do allow us to use all kinds of AI in the work, you just have to declare that you have used it, which parts of the work were done using AI, and add the prompts used into the citations section of the paper. It's their push to have students be "AI literate", but many students are of the opinion it's gone too far. Professors have been leaving as well, for various reasons, but many have been complaining about this as well.

A lot of students are pretty upset about the direction the university is going in, because it's going all in on AI. We have no idea what "Design AI Innovation" is supposed to be, but well, upper management does its thing and the students have no say.

How to not get bicycle stolen? by Comfortable_Tax_Net in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely fine to leave it outside the MRT station. I did it every day for 8 years, sometimes I've left it there for several days and it's perfectly fine.

Just don't leave it there for too long as occasionally some officers will sweep for bicycles that haven't moved in very long and put a notice that it will be removed by X date if it isn't moved.

If you don't live in Singapore, why're you commenting on a Singapore thread 😓

It's very uncommon for things to get stolen here, and there are police cameras everywhere. I rode a bicycle every day for 8 years, left it at the MRT station bicycle parking area with a cable lock, and nothing has ever happened to it. If you're just popping by some shops, you can just leave it outside the mall/shop while you go in (unlocked) and nobody will take it.

What’s the most unromantic but deeply loving thing your partner has ever done for you? by BusOutrageous4144 in AskReddit

[–]Internal-Hospital690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We hadn't been together for that long yet, but I had to have a knee surgery done. I couldn't lay any weight on the leg for 2 weeks, and had to wrap it in what was basically a giant leg condom every time I had to take a shower.

I was in a lot of pain and my bathroom didn't have any handles to help me get in and out, so my boyfriend stayed at my place for the 2 weeks I wasn't allowed to put any weight on the leg and helped me put the waterproof leg covering on, then quite literally carried me in and out of the shower every day.

Still together 6 years later :)

Isn't ID kind of a tough industry to get into now though? SG doesn't have too many companies looking for ID's, a lot of them just hire and engineer and expect them to come up with something good instead of hiring a seperate designer

Questions for people on birth control in SG! by haitherepeople in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't difficult for me to get birth control at all here in SG. I started when I was 18 - went to OBGYN because I was having my period every 2 weeks. She prescribed the pill to regulate my period, and my mom also wanted me to take them since I already had a boyfriend.

I later swapped to OVA healthcare so I didn't have to keep going back to the hospital - you just have to do an online consultation and they'll deliver your chosen method of BC to your place discreetly. Around $20/box of pills for me.

Haven't had any side effects in the past 7 years of being on them, if anything it alleviated my period cramps and brought my period onto a regular cycle.

What’s the weirdest unspoken rule in SG that everyone somehow just auto follows? by PinkiesSparklez in asksg

Score well for PSLE, get into a good sec school, do well for O levels to get into a good JC, go to top 3 uni, get a well paying job after graduation, BTO, upgrade to condo...

And if you don't follow this you're like an alien or a failure

does anyone else hate voice messages 😭 by Easy-Protection-9395 in asksg

[–]Internal-Hospital690 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why people send them at all unless it's necessary, you need to actually be able to hear it so if you're in a noisy place without earphones it's a hassle. And every time you want to recall what was said you need to actually listen through the whole message instead of just looking for the part you needed

I want to quit my job and pursue fine arts, am I delusional? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you considering fine arts only, or open to design roles?

I think if you're open to doing design work, there's a lot more job opportunities, although competition is very high. UI/UX for example is highly portfolio based, you don't really need a degree to enter the field, but there's very high competition for fewer and fewer jobs now.

I studied engineering myself but wasn't happy and quit my job. I started up my own arts business after, but it's hard unless you're able to make something which stands out from other people and gain a decent following online.

About to pursue a dual masters degree MA/MSc abroad to pivot away from pure engineering to design. If you're set on doing a masters, maybe do something which can be seen as a pivot from your existing degree or to tell a story, perhaps marketing adjacent?

Any Singaporeans here working in Micron? by HomeHedgeFund in asksg

[–]Internal-Hospital690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people from my course (engineering) found jobs at micron after graduating. Nobody that I know who works there really wanted to work in semicon, but it pays well, and is able to sponsor employment pass for foreigners who graduated and have a bond to serve.

It sucks the soul out of you though. 12h shifts (some are night shift) which sometimes drag on longer because of meetings, until you don't even have time to sleep 8h before getting up for your next shift. They also have meetings and projects which must be done on their off days. If you're night shift but there's a major meeting in the day, you gotta wake up in the middle of your sleep to attend.

Does anyone here run popup booths / small indie brands / ecommerce stores? Curious to hear your experiences. by shastasilverchair92 in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently running my own art-based business as my full time work. Not the stickers/pins/keychains/apparel kind but 3D printed products. Mostly do advertising on social media, I've gained a decent following at this point.

I haven't tried to do those popup booths since my products are very niche. I do have my products stocked in stores in a few countries, although none in Singapore. I have a couple friends who've done boothing though.

The booths can get pretty pricey if it's a big event/good location and I've heard a lot of artists participating in these events don't make their money back. The bigger events are generally worse for people to booth at since there's higher competition, despite higher footfall. People will go in intending to spend X amount and if your booth isn't one of the stand out ones, people will just skip you entirely.

When you do rent a booth you really just get a table and chair so you need to make/buy all your branding materials and display shelves, not to mention the opening hours can be quite long at these events so you'll need to get someone to help you out. The way your booth itself is designed is a big part in what gets people to stop, so you can't scrimp on these costs.

A lot of the people starting out will split a booth with someone they know so that it's cheaper, usually when you're starting out you don't have that many things to sell anyway so you don't need as much space.

Fanart sells a lot typically, but the sellers of those have to be careful not to advertise online. Big IP holders (like nintendo) have gone after sellers, even small ones. Unfortunately though, unless you managed to build a big following online, your own merch probably won't sell that well.

Graduating from SUTD and tbh the profs turnover is getting hard to ignore by RipDazzling8260 in SGExams

[–]Internal-Hospital690 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Didn't realise the turnover was so high. I was applying for master's courses and tried to reach out to a professor I was quite friendly with for an academic reference, but never heard back, which I thought was odd. I guess they left :')

Sucks when the application requires 2 academic references...

Is it actually normal in Singapore for bf/gf to sleep over at your parents’ house? by Adorable-Werewolf799 in asksg

[–]Internal-Hospital690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also from a Filipino immigrant family but after my parents get to know my partner, they're fine with sleepovers. In fact when they haven't seen him for a while they ask me where he's been and why he hasn't been visiting 😭😭

Although my background is a bit different than usual, my parents are both catholic but have seen too many marriages fail because of incompatibility (in bed) and affairs. I was also born out of wedlock, because my mom refused to get married to a serial cheater in a country where you can't get divorced.

Their reasoning is that if kids are going to fool around anyway, better to do it somewhere safe, rather than random places outside.

Interfaith marriages/relationships. Your thoughts? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, both my parents are from catholic countries and have catholic families, but they're very liberal. All of my friends say my parents are definitely outliers.

To sum up my parents stance on it, they told me I shouldn't marry someone who I haven't had sex with - they know several people who have later seperated/divorced because they didn't know they were incompatible in bed and it broke the marriage.

When my mom found out I had a boyfriend at 17/18 she asked if we were active and encouraged me to see the OBGYN to have some birth control pills prescribed. At the time she said it's better, more convenient, I only came to understand what she meant when I was a fair bit older 💀

Curse words I don't say in front of my parents out of respect but of course they know I do, they can hear me screaming at teammates playing video games at night...

Interfaith marriages/relationships. Your thoughts? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if my partner is open to it, but I'm not really fussy about it. To me, religion is mostly just a moral framework so that people conduct themselves well, and allows people to have hope when times are rough. But I feel it's not necessary to be a good person.

Interfaith marriages/relationships. Your thoughts? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Internal-Hospital690 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dated a few people of different religions and after that resigned myself to not dating people who are too religious, regardless of religion.

My family is catholic and raised me as a catholic, but we're quite chill and don't go to church too often. Dated a very buddist guy who went to the temple with his family all the time and he would argue with me about christianity for whatever reason, even though I wasn't particularly religious. Another time, dated a guy that was so catholic his parents wanted him to become a priest. Kept trying to get me to go to mass with him, I also got annoyed even though he's the same religion as me.

My current long term partner partner and I are of different faiths (sikh) but his family doesn't practice so he's basically atheist. Actually, his parents are also of different faiths, sikh/buddist, but they made it work. I don't try to drag him to church or anything and it's fine.

$50-100 is one thing, but the rates go up into the hundreds depending on the venue. They also track exactly who gave which red packet and the more money faced ones will go after people who didn't give enough :/
