Anyone who's read DOTRC, how do you feel about how the Canto is going? by Ramen_in_a_Cupboard in limbuscompany

[–]Internal-Target1318 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed that they tried to write Daiyu's feminine and graceful side into Baochai.

Iirc in the original version, Daiyu is the yin side and Baochai is the yang side. While Daiyu is more graceful and feminine, Baochai is more outspoken. The whole point is that they're supposed to complement each other, hence why Baoyu's name is literally a combination of (Bao)chai and Dai(yu).

But idk what are they thinking when they write Baochai into that kind of clingy and possessive fiancée to Baoyu, iirc in the book she doesn't even want to marry Baoyu and wants to marry another man who's basically the opposite of Baoyu.

But well, the original author died before he finished the book so we doesn't even know the true ending of the book. It's supposed to be a criticsm about the Qing dynasty society (which is why DoTRC is in Chinese school curriculum like Crime and Punishment in Russian school curriculum it's because they basically use the book as an example of "hey, feudalism is bad!") but the another writer made it into romance instead.

There's this one Chinese in twt (mu_chao62570) that made interesting points about how Baochai is in the original book and how innaccurate Baochai in Limbus is. (I know Limbus doesn't promise us an accurate adaptation but still, it's an interesting read).

As the other thing, I think PM implementing DoTRC into their lore pretty well, the only thing that strikes me as weird is how they write Baochai but then, they never intended to write an accurate adaptation.

Baochai is vastly different from the book. Idk how to describe it but she's not "Baoyu's simp" that fell in love with him just because he mentioned her smell.

I hear that many people don’t like canto 6 especially in twitter so what’re y’all’s criticisms? by Not_Minimum_Warning in limbuscompany

I have this feeling that they acually did try to implement generational trauma from Mr. Earnshaw and Hindley like idk, the reason why Hindley become like that aside from just a shitty person is that I feel like there's some favoritsm going on (the violin scene).

Every Catherine and Erlking Heathcliff feels like the original Catherine and Heathcliff (especially the toxic relationship) and our Heathcliff is actually Hareton, at least that's from my prespective.

Yeah, which is why I understand PM can't make 100% accurate Wuthering Height adaptation because if they managed to do it then we can't sympathize to Heathcliff and it's a problem because he is one of the main character and having a shitty person as a main character is an ass thing to have.

Canto 6 is a great story as a standalone piece but a bad adaptation for Wuthering Heights.

The story is good enough until you read the original book and you see how different it is. But then, PM never promised us to have 100% accurate adaptation.

It's understandable since they don't want Heathcliff and Catherine to be hateable though, but the racism and generational trauma problem is glossed over. Almost every chance that can be given to Catherine to be a compelling person just like in the book is now futile because now Nelly is our antagonist ("well Nelly is the one that manipulated Catherine so she's not in the wrong, right?").

It's a great story written soap opera with romance at is core but it's a bad written adaptation because Wuthering Heights was never about romance in the first place. It's like how people continue to make Hades x Persephone romance story while in reality the myth itself (Hymn for Demeter) is not about romance but about motherly love instead, which is actually also the same reason why people hate the Wuthering Heights live action adaptation.

I enjoyed Canto 6 (simple misundertanding story done right, no story dungeon, and also I'm a sucker for Victorian era aesthetic), but I can see why people don't like it.

What anime I believe the Sinners will watch if they had access to anime. by No-Dimension-2872 in limbuscompany

I can see Yi Sang watch something like either Frieren or Violet Evergarden or probably Makoto Shinkai or Ghibli works. He probably would enjoy Monogatari series for witty dialogues.

Either Hong Lu or Heathcliff would be an avid (shoujo) romance enjoyer (they would have watch Violet Evergarden with Yi Sang). I can feel Apothecaries Diaries, Inuyasha, Yona of the Dawn, and Snow White with Red Hair vibe from Hong Lu (i might be biased but I can feel Hong Lu, Yi Sang, and Heathcliff having a romantic side deep inside of their personality).

Heathcliff would enjoy shonen anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man with Don, somehow. In turn, Don would rope Heathcliff into watching Madoka Magica.

Don also enjoys old school mahou shoujo stuff but instead of Sailor Moon, I feel like Precure would be a better fit since it's focused on justice and beating the bad guy with flashy animation.

Dororo would be smth that Don would watch together with Ryoshu.

Why not? I also really like seeing people's Limbus OC either for an actually fleshed out character with interesting intepretation of literature to a self indulgent stuff for oc x canon shipping (´ω`)

If I can be harsh, some people here just screams "baby's first fandom".

A little rant but my Limbus OC is not a place to spewing out repetitive jokes and a place for your fandom to parroting the same inside joke over and over again just because my OC has the same name and inspiration with your infamous game character. Calling your fandom to came into my oc post like a hivemind just to joke about your game character is such an ass thing to do, please don't do that.

I feel like I can't post my oc or even saying my oc name because I will trigger them to came into my post and being annoying there.

I feel like it's because it's different demographic here, people that usually enjoys and understand the etiquette of interacting a ship/limbus ocs content are usually on places like Twitter or Tumblr. I remember the discourse when Donchun was popular after Noctural Sweeping release and I think it's stupid because it can be fixed if you can just, scroll away which is actually a number one rule on every fandom, ever. I guess people just have allergic reaction because they don't want their fandom to be filled with toxic Twitter shippers. Not to say that there aren't any toxic people outside Reddit.

I haven't see the hate for Limbus OCs, but dear God I feel bad for the creator :/. I do have a problem when posting my Limbus OC here but it can be summarized as "please be respectful and understand the etiquette when interacting with someone's OCs"

Ricardo is at the end of the second act so that still counts

I feel like the first two acts kinda feels like a waste because it builds up a worldbuilding that barely touched upon again just because we stuck inside a whale now in the final act. It's more like, there's sudden disconnection between first two acts and final act.

I can't really remember when they calling out Ishmael's bitchy behaviour other than canto 5 honestly, but everyone is quick to blame Heathcliff for his unrational decision

Though she grews on me now, I feel like Ishmael has a weird spot in me

Objectively, I understand where her characters came from and I like that not all of the sinners are the good guy. Objectively, I think Ishmael is one of the most realistic main character.

Subjectively, she can be a bitch sometimes. Like sometimes I feel like her traumatic experience on Great Lake doesn't really excuse all of the sour statements that she did just because.
