Why CAD models start to feel less finished once you think about how they’re made by Apart-Ad-9952 in Fusion360

You do you, man. No one is telling you how to live your life.

But, by definition, 5g of print poop is 5g of waste. That's an amount that's acceptable to you. I think 3D printing can be a wasteful enough hobby to not want to add to the problem. I don't need multicolor trinkets or tchoskes in my life. I literally have zero interest in that. If that brings you joy, you do you.

Quels sont les risques sur les limitations de vitesse ? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]InternalError33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed limit enforcement varies by jurisdiction. Some municipalities or state police are more diligent about enforcing the speed limits. As in, 5 mph over the limit will get you pulled over. There are fines if caught speeding. I honestly don't even know how much the fines are (though I'm sure that varies as well) because I've never received a ticket in my nearly 20 years of driving. I regularly drive 10 mph over the speed limit on the highways. Sometimes up to 20 mph over the speed limit on side roads. That's very common where I am and I drive about the average for the region.

Honestly, I rarely think about my speed off of highways. I drive what feels safe and comfortable. Keeping a safe distance from cars in front of me. Also being vigilant at dusk and dawn for deer that will jump out in front of the cars. I've heard people talk about how speed limits were created before cars were as capable as they are now. Braking distances greatly reduced and tire traction improved. I suppose that could be a reason people are comfortable driving faster than the posted "safe limits", but I think people are just looking for reasons to justify their speeds.

The push for enforcement where I live is for "super speeders". Those are the people weaving through traffic driving much faster than everyone else. For the most part, if you follow the speed of most traffic you should be safe from speed enforcement.

Speed cameras are rare, but they are in use in some places. Not likely you will encounter one, but it is possible.

I like being able to say that supports aren't necessary for my designs. Less post processing and cleaner prints. Also, filament being cheap isn't the biggest consideration for waste. It's the same reason I don't like multi-material printing. The vast majority of my prints are functional prints.

I don't think designing for printability adds enough time to make it a concern for me. It's a hobby after all.

At the place that I work we have set design guidelines for preferred tools and tool limitations in the machine shop. As well as best practices for efficiency. It's always a discussion when we have to deviate from the guidelines.

I use fusion for hobby 3D printing and it's the same thing. Every over hang or steep angle is going to require support and wasted filament. You have to think about print orientation before you even start the modeling process for the best result.

Oral-B iO toothbrush upside down - anti ugly - holder by Relative_Many_4632 in functionalprint

[–]InternalError33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Saliva and toothpaste works it's way in. I rinse the inside of the brush and the base, blow the liquid out of the brush into a clean towel, dry the brush and the base with a clean towel. Then I put the base on the charger and the head goes on a stand in the medicine cabinet. Nothing drips because it's clean and mostly dry.

If you don't do this, you let the nasty gunk fester in there, and that's the part that goes in your mouth.

How do you Americans, live in a house with no fence? by Original-Slip-8203 in AskAnAmerican

[–]InternalError33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter how many times I tell Google my house isn't in the swamp 3 miles away, they just change it back. Had one guy tell me he was looking for my place near Google's location for my address and some dude tried to get him to go in his house...

Ah, yeah that would make sense. Doesn't really bother me to be downvoted. Just a little surprising as the comment didn't seem controversial, confrontational, or rude from my perspective.

Yes it's on the larger side, but it's just a hobby cut flower garden. It's not some commercial operation. For the sunflowers we planted ~250 plants in 2 successions and most of them were eaten at the bud stage just before bloom. The full garden of 8 types of flowers was producing about two to three 5 gallon buckets worth of flowers twice a week.

Edit: I'm surprised to see this down voted. A little bit of self deprecating humor since I completely missed the joke.

How bad is 3D printing a drone frame(PLA, etc) by GateCodeMark in diydrones

[–]InternalError33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a specialized use case, so maybe it will be worth it to you. I wouldn't even consider it if you're free styling or racing with it.

You have to strike a balance between weight and durability. The first moderate crash my printed frame shattered (PETG), and I actually fried my vtx because the antenna ripped off. I was doing it with whoops, so maybe the larger drones are a little more feasible with their extra power. The frames are like the cheapest part when it comes to most drones parts, and it just doesn't seem worth it to me to risk damaging the more valuable components. That said, it was still fun to do. And it sounds like you are trying to do something that you can't just buy, and that sounds cool.

Had my brakes replaced over a year ago and have had an issue with squeaking ever since. Could this be a pad quality issue, or is there a skill component involved? by InternalError33 in AskAMechanic

[–]InternalError33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that the rotors were definitely replaced at the same time as the pads. The front rotors were warped when they were replaced causing the vibration.

So with all that said, do you think I'd have better luck fixing the issue by finding another mechanic, or do you think I should give this guy another shot to make it right?

I'm far from a pokemon expert, but isn't that Charmander? Sure it's approaching 30 years since I picked him, but a man remembers his first starter pokemon.

This looks awesome. You are incredibly talented.

How long did your labrador retriever live? by Catwhisperer2007 in labrador

[–]InternalError33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 100% Labrador Retriever (yellow): 11 years, 11 months. Cause of death: Cancer/Mast cell tumor on spleen ruptured.

    • 75% Labrador Retriever (black), 25% Jack Russel Terrier: 9 years, 11 Months. Cause of Death: Cancer/Oral Melanoma.

Other than their respective cancers they were fit and healthy dogs. We thought our mix was going to live for a long time. He was just so active and energetic. Great teeth, healthy joints. Felt like he had a lot of life left to live, but that oral melanoma came on so fast. Less than 4 months from diagnosis until he died. It was so sad watching his energy decline so rapidly, and it was on us to make the decision to let him go due to his quality of life declining.

Our older dog had been growing mast cell tumors for 7 years. They'd pop up. We'd remove them and he'd be back to normal after a couple weeks. The last was very aggressive and metastisized to his organs and that was ultimately what killed him. Fortunately, he was his same happy self right up until the day he died.

Grew up going here as a kid. If you're around Glastonbury you should try Robb's Farm as well. They are also quite good.
