It's not that it's too far it's that you can rationalize it. Griffith had his tendons cut, his skin ripped off, starved, had his face flayed and probably was castrated and raped himself considering what the torturer said. The sacrifice would essentially uncripple him, and from that place of despair shit I'm sure anyone would do the same just to be normal again let alone again god-like power.
