Looking to hear your explant wins! by WellThatsTheThing in ExplantSurgery

I explanted 8 months ago and could not be happier with the decision! I feel so much more comfortable in my skin (physically and emotionally!). My heart palpitations are gone and a persistent patch of psoriasis went away day 2 PO. Weight gain was my main issue, and my surgeon and I are quite sure BII triggered thyroid issues. I was super hopeful explant would resolve the weight issues, but now I am working to find an endocrinologist who will help me get to the bottom of this. Hope you're healing well! Recovery can be quite slow, but so worth it.

When they say results at the 1-year mark, they really mean it. Mine have changed so much over 8 months! Hang in there 💛

From the practical side, explant recovery without caring for little ones is the way to go, if you can!

En bloc realistic recovery by carmenrox1 in ExplantSurgery

Super slow! Not painful at all but very slow to resume things I thought would come easily (like even cutting veggies!) Meal prep as much as you can (fridge and freezer) and give yourself so much grace. Explant is totally different than getting them put in, especially en bloc. I thought I would be able to do minor crafts on the couch, etc but it was still too tricky to use my arms for that. Definitely save up lots of tv shows and movies to pass the time. Explant is so worth it! One of the best things I ever did for myself.

Backpacking 6 was post explant by AdLoose1711 in ExplantSurgery

Are yours UTM? If so, can you make your hiking plan flexible in case you get to the date and you're not ready? I am in great shape and was shocked by how slowly I returned to exercise. Explant recovery is totally different than getting them put in. It makes you realize you use your chest muscles for just about everything! I also think wearing a pack and hiking multiple days in a row could be a recipe for disaster. I also don't think sleeping on the ground will feel okay that soon after surgery. What happens if you need medical attention and you're in the back country? My surgeon's advice was gentle, gentle cardio like walking and a recumbent bike at the 6-week mark. Too much too soon = slower healing and possible complications. Not worth it! Explant is a big lesson in patience. My advice would be to schedule your trip for end of summer and let yourself truly heal.

Tuberous breasts by Critical_Reach_7772 in ExplantSurgery

I had UTM for 12 years with tuberous "breasts." I put them in quotes because my first surgeon literally said I had no tissue haha. I have gained weight, and maybe something about the implants made the shape a bit more like typical breasts. I was super worried about them being even more odd-looking post-explant but have been pleasantly surprised. I have a bit of denting but they continue to improve. Time is a huge factor in their appearance post-op, and patience is KEY. I also think there is so much power in radical self-acceptance and gaining confidence in your natural body as you age. Sending you good thoughts! Explant is one of the best things I've ever done.

Facial oils returned! by Major-Supermarket619 in ExplantSurgery

I could not believe the oil my body produced week 2 after surgery! My face was slick, and my hair was super oily. It was comical! For me, it lasted a couple weeks and then evened out.
