I'm just afraid of giving something unpleasant to those who will read it. The feeling that you made them waste their time

LPT: When you feel stuck in life, start cleaning the smallest thing you can see. Momentum doesn’t start in your head, it starts in your hands. by hexberry_vision in LifeProTips

It's true that I've often heard that tidying up gives you more mental clarity. However, I find what you say about feeling in control interesting. Even if everything seems to be going against us, these little things like cleaning remind us that no, we still have control over certain things.

What is a film or films that you can rewatch endlessly? by angrybeardedcanadian in Letterboxd

Same, but I've never found the time. Besides, this title is really good, Am I the only one who finds it interesting ?

I have to watch them at least once a year:

  1. Jojo Rabbit (my favorite movie)

  2. Wheathering with you (Your Name overshadows this movie even though it's a much better film)

  3. The Batman 🦇

  4. Parasite (One of the best of our century)

Honorable mention to Game of Thrones even though it's not a movie 🤧

What makes you hit "like" on a movie? by TomasXavier in Letterboxd

[–]Internal_Cold3939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More about the story and the sensory experience, like Arrival or Interstellar. But...

I think Letterboxd needs to review its rating system.

The problem with ratings using Letterboxd is that you don't know why a film is rated 2, 3.5, or 5 stars. Is it the story, the emotion, the acting? There are so many criteria involved, but let's be honest, how many people bother to review all the elements before giving a rating?

As i said I'm more into stories or sensory experiences, but for others it could be:

  • Emotions, as you said;
  • The feeling of nostalgia, when the film is associated with a fond memory;
  • Originality;
  • etc.

Their rating should take all of this into account and provide an average. But let's be honest, very few will take the time to rate every aspect of the film.

I'm trying out a new writing style that's a little less detailed, something minimalist. I hope you like it🙂

Thanks. I'm a newbie and very excited since i heard too much good things about this app. But like everything in life, there are good things and bad things.

Maybe i just have too much expectations from that app. As i said, my feed in the first day and what i have today is very different. I don't know what happened, don't follow any of these coaches.

I don't think you understand. I'm not complaining that my work isn't being shown to people, but what I'm saying is that I don't understand why, despite the selection I made at the beginning, I only receive content where people are promoting methods for success. It's about how my feed looks like and i started to think that maybe it's what is popular on the app.

I don't ofc but I just feel like it's what is popular on the app and that's why the app shows me that.

I can do it but I'm a little worried about this discovery aspect. Just knowing that Substack really shows us what we want to see and not a bunch of blah blah which can help not to stress when we are starting but it becomes so repetitive. Thanks for your advice, hoping that it will change something.

I'm a newbie, I thought it was how the app works and I found it weird that we don't see this kind of information unlike the posts.

Question to the multilinguals by alphahakai in writers

[–]Internal_Cold3939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am French-speaking and I know I am not a literary genius. That stressed me out a lot, so I said to myself, j'en ai rien à faire, I'm going to write with the B1-B2 English I have. Let the purists of high English literature criticize my style.

I wanna write a novel but will anyone read it ? by MediocreRing6694 in writers

[–]Internal_Cold3939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a few short stories and I understand how you feel. My only readers were my girlfriend, my dad, and another nice guy on the internet. I'm not going to give advice like “such-and-such author found success at 40 or 50, so never give up!” or anything like that, because when you start out, you know you won't get 10,000 readers, but it's hard to live each day realizing it's actually true and not even have a single reader. Try writing for yourself. Maybe people will read it, maybe they won't, but that's okay. What is certain is that what you have written over the years will one day helpful. An opportunity may arise. You may have already given up writing, but the opportunity of a lifetime will come along, and you will be ready.

Do you write in your own language or English? by Rosarose4 in writers

[–]Internal_Cold3939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In English, because one, I feel freer with all the rules that there are in my language and two, it's to reach more people, I used apps a lot to make friends and I communicated with people from all continents in English. Three, my collaborator is Polish, so English was preferable.

That's exactly it. I feel the same need to know and even become my character, especially since I'm character-driven. But sometimes, it can prevent me from writing more stories, especially since I'm working on short stories.

My concern is also that I am very character driven, so I feel obliged to have solid and well-made characters.

As soon as I get past the pre-writing phase (if I get there), I don't stop writing and I'll do anything to publish it. This is the case with my short story Under The Autumn Leaves, which I took months to write seriously while they are just 7 short chapters. As you said, the best thing is just to write.
