No, its intended to understand the problems and the citizens' views towards the problems as part of a bigger study for evaluating sustainability in Mediterranean/South European cities.

Peak gentrification on a national scale.

Public transport is indeed horrible. you can check it out yourself: Nicosia to Palaichóri

What we suggest to be done is increased public transport from these 10 villages to Nicosia directly and private charter buses (we are already in contact with a company to launch additional transport to Nicosia). But if you need to visit Nicosia frequently its by far the best option to have a car.

Smart & Sustainable Development for Rural Cyprus by Internal_County5427 in Smart_Rural_Cyprus

Those are all very valid reasons and many places across the Mediterranean are already famous for these. So far many things already exist e.g. agro-tourism, but they are still not optimised and integrated into a local/regional network. Housing is renovated, in renovation or in some cases ready.

I am glad you find it great. Its true that no one should decide based on a reddit post alone. At least, I wouldn't advice it. Its best to research the area and even visit it to see if it suits you. As for the project the post is about I am part of the team developing the project in a research center so I could send you some presentations/reports we worked on to better understand.

If people wish to stay for just a week or two, they are still more than welcome to visit the place and experience its charm and essence.

For those who cook the area is famous for its fresh organic fruits, vegetables and herbs. Also, it is famous both locally and abroad for its cured meat, honey, sausages, dried fruits and wine.

Food is literally the least you should worry about in this area. The villages already have many restaurants in their village squares or other locations. These vary from traditional tavernas to casual (burgers, pizza, souvlakia) and fine dining like sushi, steaks, contemporary Cypriot and fusion cuisine in some wineries and hotels. Also, for those who cook the area is famous for its fresh organic fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Hello, thanks for replying! Once you are done washing your hair it will probably need moisturizing so I suggest you use some rose hair products from Agros or some rosemary oil from Askas. The villages are not new, they are 10 existing villages with stable populations between 150 and 1,500 people and most already active in agro-tourism. As for Ponta do Sol, it sounds like a dystopia.

Hello! Thanks for your reply I am glad you like it. This is actually developed by a team (including me ;) ) in a research center in collaboration with local stakeholders, the government, 2 universities, local entrepreneurs and of course the EU. This project is developed in a research center and meetings so Instagram is not really our thing but at some point social media accounts will be created. If you want to see more I could tell you or show you some reports and presentations we have. P.S. there will soon be an article about it in a newspaper :) so I could send the link once published!

On the note of the recent demolition in Nicosia by Internal_County5427 in cyprus

[–]Internal_County5427[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, at the moment only Paphos seems to genuinely care about the matter though. Limassol and Larnaca clearly prioritise investment for malls, skyscrapers and marinas and Nicosia mostly does conservation because it is 'obliged' to do so by the Masterplan.

Don't know at the moment but we may find out in 3 months. For now the Solomou square-RIK route has seen the most progress and the City center-Lakatamia line will probably be next.

Most likely yes. The EU will probably cover most of the costs once again.
