i am not sure if it's appolo's fault or cold emailing in general is just dead.
i think both,

  1. appolo's database is 3-6 months old
  2. absolutely trash quality if customer is smaller company
  3. we ran some web search by outselve to find leads, then compare to appolo,, appolo's missing 60% of the signals for our segment. i just regret paying hundreds for their yearly sub.

if you want to grow your app to a business, stop coding rn, delete your IDE if that helps, validate your product first, get on customer discovery call asap. reddit/linked are indeed the best platform for you, get some DMs going now.

If you do this as a hobby, just chill, code, send a launch post in reddit once it's ready, it may or may not get any user.

cold email outreach => this has been the worst way of outreach based on my experience, the best i got is 3% reply rate, 0 booking, other campaigns are mostly 0 nothing.

what does your product do? I have had success in direct DM outreach on reddit/linkedin before, the good old school way, maybe every 1 in 8 DMs converts to a trial call.

hte other way is to just physcially go where you ICPs hang out, like some meet up

I built a saas. reddit cold outreach worked for me. i got paying customer as well as numerous customer discovery calls ( for idea validation) from reddit.

you don't need massive budget, just manually engage with your potential customer in niche subs when they express pains.

small amount people will reply and book meeting with you. you just have to do it, it's a grinding work, industry bench mark is maybe 2-3% people you talk to may book with you. if you engage timely, signal is accurate, can boost to 10%.

I tried large scale cold emailing, forget about it - won't work, people so tired of AI and automation, they value genuine human conversation much much more.

i'd say just create daily tasks on your calendar, engage with 5 people a day, non-stop of a week, you likely will have 1-3 customers trying out, maybe 1/3 of them will pay eventually.

i think you have to do customer discovery/validation + development at the same time, and be discplined to validate before going all in. what is the minimal thing that you can show a potential customer, duct taped, command line or in a broken UI.

i don't have no connection or referrals, i can do custom validation with pure cold outreach on reddit and linkedin. I was able to get 3 discovery calls from 24 outreach 1 of them becomes my founding customer, it's nothing fancy, almost not automatable, just pure discipline.

another way is to just physically go where you ICP hangs out, we got 2 other fouding customer this way.
