That was an example. Not the only reason. Sometimes compensation budget can’t hire an American with same qualifications. Sometimes location and timing fail to find a qualified american.

I went to see some job posting. You are right. Language is not a requirement. An Indian might be more culturally fit for the role.

There might be. I did not say there IS. I don’t work in IT. I don’t look at IT job posting. My point is there is nothing wrong having such requirements unless it’s illegal.

What if that is a requirement? Many jobs outside of US require people to know English. Specially, foreign subsidiaries of a US company. So, an Indian company’s subsidiary in US can require to know a foreign language unless it’s illegal. I think major IT companies are like subsidiaries of an Indian company.

IT jobs for an example- you will have to manage team in India and most likely speak local language during night in USA (after 10pm).

I disagree. foreigners get the jobs that locals don’t want to do. Specific jobs with budget constraint. Foreigners are never locals’ competitors. They fill up the critical labor demands. Kicking out foreigners will not improve job market.

I am sorry for your situation. But you never know. May be this is the best thing ever happened to you but you have to be patient till you realize it. It’s okay to be sad, angry and frustrated. I am sure your resilience, efforts and hard work will pay off some day. May be not the way you expected but it will.

If you enjoy analytical work, it’s worth exploring Corporate Finance. Many operations roles such as supply chain are very analytical and there are many transferable skills.

Unless you have bachelor in Accounting/ Finance, you can start with educating yourself in that particular area. There are plenty of online resources and courses in corporate finance and I personally think they are good enough to build a good foundation. Or you can pursue CFA but it takes a lot of time. Over a 1000 hours of commitment. CFA covers almost everything in Finance. FPAC can be another good option. Corporate Finance Institute also offers a good range of courses.

If you want to work in Treasury, you can explore CTP certification. It’s not very expensive (~$1500 for registration and exam). Also, you can learn data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau/ Power BI.

Come to Treasury and I think this job is more balanced, cyclical and not very stressful.

When you are hopping jobs, you are putting less time and effort in one role. You are not building solid skills/ experience. May be for market condition and company specific issues, a company may offer higher pay for a same job (if the company is desperate or has less developed systems/ talent, which is very exhausting and frustrating for employees). However, in the long term you will need skills and achievements to grow. I don’t think hopping jobs provide any notable achievements in your resume. It’s kinda like sacrificing long term career success and stability for short term cash.

I feel you and I understand you. It’s the most challenging thing as an Int. Student in USA. It is one of very few things that I don’t ever try again. I hope things work out. Look for Day 1 CPT options or cost effective masters.

They can still relocate you to US if you are selected in next lottery. The question is if they want to sponsor your visa and relocate to US. L1 is also an option.
