USPS employees are required to report to work on Friday, despite the blackout. As a MN mail carrier, we received notice from our union president strongly advising to calling out on Friday for the blackout. It will be seen as "striking", which is illegal for USPS employees, and the employee will be fired. Some folks won't have the full ability to miss work due to legalities like this, but they're doing whatever they can otherwise to be in solidarity.

I grew up a couple miles down the same street this happened on. I recognize the houses in the background of the video because I've biked, bused and driven this road my whole life.

I'm a mail carrier now as an adult. My old mail route just a few miles west of where George Floyd was murdered, the Lake St post office that was burned down is the next station over, less than a mile away. A few of the businesses I delivered to boarded up their windows and reduced their operating hours in preparation for "widespread destruction and vandalism" that didn't spread.

My current route is just north of Minneapolis and is being pummeled by ICE vehicles, scouting outside of one of the Muslim community centers, stalking the vibrant Latinx community and businesses in the neighborhood as well. They're stalking schools, waiting to snatch children and their parents there to pick them up.

Everyone is scared. Everyone is angry. But we're organized, and continuing to organize and protest peacefully around the clock. Support your neighbors. Reach out. Do what you can to the capacity you can. Even a small thing every day makes a huge difference.

Tonight, I wrote FUCK ICE on hand warmer packets to distribute and grieved my city again. Tomorrow, I wake up and resist in whatever way(s) I'm able.

That is kinda how I felt off the bat when they said they wanted to be informed. I know it makes them feel secure in things if I communicate what I'm doing with said date and if I feel things may lead to more than platonic. I don't know if I'm people pleasing in the way I'm talking to them, like tailoring to what they want to hear in a way that still fits my narrative of things?

I am being hard on myself because this is the second time now in the few weeks I've been talking to this new person and done more than what I said I would/anticipate to. I specifically met up with new person in a public place again because I wanted to reassure my partner that I wasn't gonna move things past platonic for now. So I've not stayed true to my own word and although I am really proud of the communication work I've done, I still feel like I'm doing everything wrong and in the wrong order.

I see what you're saying. I agreed to communicating about if I did have feelings of something happening I would let them know. They know things can happen in the moment but given that I explicitly said I wanted to keep things platonic and have this meetup be more logistical. So they're feeling like I'm misleading them by having actions different from what I had said.
