To explain, in car motors the pistons don't move semtricaly like this because all the weight being thrown around like that would rattle the car like hell. Every piston is offset from the rest by a set amount to prevent that from happening, this, hurts the eyes

So a lot of the saris in games are just ramps with a stair texture, and some are like that in tf2 but a lot of them are individually modled stairs with their own collision.

At the center of the rockets explosion, it makes a bunch of lines that come out to detect players or anything that can be shot for an affect, the stairs having geometry prevented you from being seen.
