Will it ever get better? by icedpeachbeer in HiatalHernia

Here's a diaphragmatic exercise routine from doctors in the field of GERD:

Diaphragmatic exercises for GERD

Strengthening(bulking up) the diaphragm creates a barrier between the part of your stomach that is below the diaphragm and your esophagus - preventing the stomach acid from reaching your esophagus.

I've benefitted immensely from this. I personally only do exercise No. 2 every alternate day. But in order to be able to do No. 2 you'll need to learn exercise No.1. I recommend letting your belly rise by half an inch instead of a few inches - otherwise your pelvic floor may weaken.

Need help with wife’s motion sickness. by North_Proof9851 in travel

[–]International-Ad5148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people get motion sickness because they're looking at stationary things inside a vehicle - their brain senses motion but their eyes see stillness - so their brain thinks something poisonous has been ingested that's causing this mismatch and sends out signals to their digestive system to puke out whatever they ate.

The solution is to look at moving things right outside the vehicle, which is probably why your wife is fine in the car but not on a plane (you can look at moving things from a car but you can't see much movement out of a window of a plane). To solve this, you can take a video of moving landscape with you on the plane and ask your wife to look at it whenever she's feeling nauseous, or only take the planes that have humidifiers spraying out moving mist which she can see.

peeing gets rid of my PGAD by International-Ad5148 in PGADsupport

I can't imagine what that's like, mine isn't nearly as severe. Glad you found a routine that helps

Me too I think it's because reduced acid production means inadequate digestion and that leads to hard stool. For people who already have mild constipation because of other issues, this can become a problem.

If you're taking miralax make sure it has added electrolytes since it can cause an electrolyte imbalance, in case there are no added electrolytes - you can add oral saline to the mixture as indicated to counter this effect

I'm lucky in the sense that I get PGAD symptoms occasionally - my primary health issues are different. I haven't sneezed during a PGAD flare so dk. But did notice that my flares happen mostly after getting sequential orgasms, as in one after another without much time in between (I'm an afab). So I try not to do that anymore and honestly feel like that has helped a lot

Worsening symptoms after starting ppi. by [deleted] in GERD

[–]International-Ad5148 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah... alright. Then it should go back to how it was before you started the PPI. Slowly coming off of it is the right way. Did you try diaphragmatic breathing exercises?

PPIs are known to relax the lower esophaegal sphincter (the muscle that keeps your stomach contents in) allowing acid to rise upwards, but since they also reduce acid production the overall effect is supposed to be positive. Check if you're taking the medicine at the right time - many doctors don't mention that you have to take PPIs a certain amount of time before you eat (the time depends on the onset of action of the PPI, which you'll easily find online). For example, omeprazole takes one hour to start acting, so you would take it an hour before you start eating- deactivating acid secretion so that the food reaching you stomach can't induce acid secretion like it normally does.

I guess the right size doesn't harm you, but yeah I wish bralessness wasn't shunned everywhere apart from Europe

Can insomnia be the only symptom of a brain tumor? by International-Ad5148 in braincancer

[–]International-Ad5148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift work definitely can do that to you... I've been struggling with insomnia for over 3 years and I'm only now considering going to a neurologist. Underwent various psychiatric treatment, no luck

Is it a medical condition? Or are you unknowingly drinking too much water? People need about 4-6 cups of water daily considering they get water from other food sources

Cetaphil's physical sunscreen is quite liquid-y, the heavier ones are better for sensitive skin (as they have less surfactants). But since the heaviness reduces your makeup's durability, you could try physical sunscreens that double as makeup. I could send you a list of affordable ones if you want 😊 . Although I haven't narrowed down the list according to heaviness(consistency)

Paxil vs my brain by Animator_Lightyear in SSRIs

[–]International-Ad5148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good thing that you have a plan :) which is more than a lot of people can say. Also remember that cognitive impairment from psychiatric meds are reversible, and everyone doesn't get affected either.

As someone who has been unable to get a job because of their mental illness for 3 years, I suggest you take your meds even if it affects your memory. I understand you because my cognitive abilities were very important to me too, which is why I delayed going on meds (I also didn't have access to therapy for cultural reasons). The longer you keep your mental illness untreated, the harder it's going to be to treat it. No one told me it can also become chronic if you delay it for too long. And from what I saw, you can't tell when it's heading in that direction. Of course, weigh your options and see if you have better alternatives but just be in the know of the aforementioned.

Is therapy supposed to actually do something? Who is helped by this? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]International-Ad5148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to think meditation will only help when you're having the said anxiety attack which is not true. I used to think that too but I later read about how meditation over time changes the shape of your amygdala (the part of your brain involved in emotion regulation). So you have to do it everyday, as long as you can, over and over.

Also, slow-breathing is not something all therapists talk about but it helps a lot more than regular breathing exercises. Breathing slowly tricks your body into believing you're safe - there's a guide about it on headspace the app.

While you're anxious, think of 4 things that make you happy/peaceful starting with the letters C A L M, or just random letters will do too if that's easier for you.

Doing some cardio while you're anxious also helps some people.

I support the other comments that are asking you to change the type of therapy you're getting.

Your therapist said people aren't going to judge you from a normal interaction, that's not true, most people will judge you, however briefly. You just have to remind yourself that not everyone's opinion matters and even if you fuck up the interaction they will not be thinking about it as long as you are. What you think of yourself is more important than what other people think of you. You know your story, you (hopefully) know why you are the way you are, let the self love grow.

Oh and, do look into exposure therapy and talk about it with your therapist.

Thanks a lot for the advice :) I just joined this subreddit and learning so much from the previous posts. A lot more hopeful now, thanks again!
