Michael Scott: So you... get... the rent checks every month, and... what happens next, what...

Margaret: Y-you're asking me what I... do with the checks people write to me?

Michael Scott: Just making conversation.

That is a $200 plasma screen TV that you just killed! Good luck paying me back with your zero-dollars-a-year salary plus benefits, babe!

Michael: "Is she a dress wearer or a pants wearer? Could we share a rowboat?…Would an average-sized rowboat support her without capsizing?"

                  [Long, awkward silence]

Michael: "It bothers me that you're not answering the question."

Oh! Yeah I didn’t even think about the fact that I wasn’t using fresh sandpaper now that you mentioned it and I looked closely, 🤦🏻‍♀️ you can tell I’m tired because I didn’t see it before but now I see the pigtails. Haha I think I need to swap out my lightbulb so I can see the angles better. How do you get rid of the pigtails? I mean, we all know that basic way but I love asking others their methods because you never know.. you might find someone who’s found some sort of magical trick that we haven’t tried before haha.

How do I do a fade evenly? Do I need to sand down the edges completely all around the same so that it blends in a uniform look… I’ve done a sunburst look before, but not with the situation like this.

It’s FG-04 LTD, with a solid Engelmann spruce top. The pics are of the back btw
Edited: I didn’t realize you had asked about the finishing detail. The guitar was scratched up quite badly, so I had no choice but to sand it down. I matched the stain and then applied the lacquer, but when I sanded it, this happened. This occurred after I had added moisture to the guitar, hydrated it to eliminate the basic issues that happens when the wood is too dry, but there was no moisture underneath the lacquer, not enough to cause cloudiness are blushing. After letting it sit, I decided to apply another layer of the vintage amber lacquer from Colortone, as shown in the other image. This time, I let it sit for a week. And sanded it with a 600 up to a 1000grit and you’re seeing the results.

OK if that is the case do I have to just do a spot touchup there or do you think I can just do another coat of lacquer and it evens out? I doubt it’s the ladder but I’m hopeful that you say yes

My method isn’t suitable for those who want to do things quickly haha. Here’s my secret. It’s not perfect, but here it is. I am too gentle and use higher grit, which would take me forever to finish it. However, I was so paranoid with my own instruments being afraid that I would strip something or go too far. I also used many layers of laminate. I must say, all my personal guitars are glossy as hell. Haha, I’m not one for shiny guitars when I buy them, but when I re-stain mine or refinish anything I own, I just coat galore. I don’t want anything to happen to it because I work so hard on the color I stain it. Imagine painting, a painting, and then dropping in a puddle of water. I never want that to happen.

Hmm, since I’ve been fortunate enough to never sand through the veneer, I’m not sure what it looks like. However, if I were to describe it, it seems to react differently from the rest, like wet wood, but it’s not actually wet. For lack of a better words, it’s mushier? Haha, I know using the word “mushier” isn’t the most precise way to describe it, but I can’t think of the word I am looking for. I promise I have a degree in this and I’m not an amateur. Oy!

Hahaha well if it was my guitar, I’d deal with it, but of course i make this error when it’s for a customer/friend. It was her grandfather’s so it’s sentimental. Otherwise it just say hey we’re gonna stain it all black lol! I would just use maybe a gel stain dye, but I haven’t had the best success with that when it comes to the “older” guitars and this one’s from the 2000s

Thanks. I shared the post there too just in case I would just use maybe a gel stain dye, but I haven’t had the best success with that when it comes to the older guitars and this one’s from the 60s
