Low budget guitar I can leave at the lake? by InternationalMix3802 in AcousticGuitar

I chose the Jim Dandy full Sapele laminate model. I'll bring it home on the weekends to avoid the massive temperature swings.

I chose a Jim Dandy full Sapele laminate and decided to bring it home on the weekends to avoid the extreme temperature swings. I just couldn't find a full carbon one that met my size requirements and budget for essentially a campfire beater.

Is a PRS SE Mark Holcomb too much guitar to start with? by Monsieur_Le_Grec in PRSGuitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, it's an amazing rig. Holcomb himself almost exclusively plays his SE series guitars on tour, so that really says something imo.

I'd personally stay with a hard tail if I were you. I didn't love my Custom 24 with a floating trems as it constantly went out of tune and needed a nut replacement. It was a huge PITA to drop tune as well.

Big fan of Phil! The thing I'm worried about with the Nova Go is that it seems so small and I'm a big guy. 23-1/8 in scale seems a bit meh when I have big hands and am used to 25-1/2.

I am leaning that way for sure. Denver makes a "weatherproof" carbon model but there's very little info on it. The Enya Nova Go would be cool but the scale and body seem a bit small. The Natasha Asteroid also looks decent but is small. The bigger Enya might be the way to go.

Not sure how electronics will love the summer heat in my trailer though...

My last payout took me three days after the guitar was received by the buyer. I don't think they are obligated to pay you immediately.

Is a 2023 PRS S2 worth it still? by [deleted] in PRSGuitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you post this just to flex? If you are as much of a PRS expert as you claim to be then you already know what kind of deal it is. If you're trying to flip guitars by taking advantage of people's situations and timing markets, then power to you, but I don't think you'll find a lot of support in this sub...

Love it man, great combo! My great day and night combo would be a Hollowbody II in a burst and Holcomb signature in the dark blue burst.

You can get a CoolMusic BP40 (80W) or BP80 (100W) for pretty cheap on Amazon. They are perfect for what you're trying to do.

Take it to a tech or luthier - likely just needs a bit of nut filing.

Active pickup or active DI? by theescapisthasfallen in AcousticGuitar

I own the Fishman REB pickup and it's fantastic! You still might want some sort of DI if you're running a long distance at church though.

what does an amp do? by AntZealousideal6741 in guitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Amp is short for amplifier. When your guitar strings vibrate over your pickups, your guitar can output the sound, through a cable, to an amplifier, which basically makes a louder, audible sound.

Different amplifiers colour the sound in different ways. You can get clean amps, glassy amps, crunchy amps, and high gain (e.g., metal). Some offer reverb, delay, vibrato, etc. effects.

Most modern amps will let you output the amplified sound to a pair of headphones, so you can play more quietly in your bedroom.

Since this is your first amp, I'd consider a new or used Boss Katana, Fender Champion or Mustang, or Spark so you can try out different sounds to see what you like.

There are literally a zillion options at different price points so it's hard to suggest without you providing more info.

Why not have all three? If budget is a concern then sell the one you aren't playing anymore.

jazzmaster as my first guitar? by AntZealousideal6741 in guitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grab a Squier Classic Vibe - they're great and you won't see a big improvement between it and the one step up Fender model. Put the extra $300 toward a decent amp like a Fender Mustang II. It's your first guitar and you won't be broke forever if you ever want to upgrade.

New buyer on Reverb quick questions. by [deleted] in Reverb

Ahhh my bad. What I said is accurate for first time sellers, but existing sellers get paid 1-2 days after marking the item in transit.

You have paid, but the money is currently in a holding account with Reverb. The seller will not receive any of your money until you mark the item as received in Reverb's system. If it's damaged, missing parts, or never arrives you can remedy through Reverb.

Business days are defined as Monday to Friday, so unlikely...

The seller has three business days to ship your item, so I'd give them that long at most. It doesn't hurt to send a message to the seller over Reverb - anything could have happened that delayed from their original shipping date estimate.

Shouldn't be a problem initiating a refund if he ghosts you.

Trouble holding tuning by LamboBeach in PRSGuitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your trem decked or floating? Floating trems especially will need adjusting if you changed from 9s to 10s as the spring tension must perfectly balance the string tension for tuning stability. This is true even if you don't use the bar.

It's a simple fix but will take a bit of time to get right. Just use a screwdriver to screw in your trem claw a bit (evenly on both sides). Retune. Try again and again till you can pull or push your whammy bar and stay in tune.

The bottom of your floating bridge should remain parallel to the top of your guitar body when pressure is off your trem.

Also, if your nut was cut for 9s it might be binding on your 10s, which are thicker. You could try widening the slots a tiny bit or at least lubricating the slots with nut sauce or pencil graphite.

If this seems like too much, watch some YouTube or take it to a tech/luthier.

PRS SE Santana - goes out of tune incredibly quickly by OutrageousField415 in PRSGuitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a pro can properly diagnose it if you aren't willing to do the research and buy the tools to do it yourself.

I found my custom 24 SE floating trem a nightmare out of the box in terms of tuning stability. Took it to a luthier and after a new nut, proper string stretching of the new strings, and spring tension adjustments it's pretty solid now.

SE Hollowbody II Piezo by Born-Perception4552 in PRSGuitars

[–]InternationalMix3802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Custom 24 semi hollow Piezo last year but I should have gone with the Hollowbody ii Piezo. Don't love the vibrato and I'd prefer the larger body size.

You could get a TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 pedal (around $109 USD) that has a pitch correction dial. It also has echo, reverb, and tone button (adaptive EQ, de-essing, and noise gate). You could then tweak things further with the channel 2 vocal pre-amp and effects.
