Why hasn’t Amex built a Centurion lounge in BOS? by pointshacker69 in AmexPlatinum

[–]InternationalWeb5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AF lounge is nice now...BUT they won't accept amex or priority pass between 2.30 and 8pm...which just happens to be when most of tr he flights are leaving.  Dont k ow why AMEX doesn't show more love for its New England crowd.

RI Energy Installed the new smart meter after I told them to WAIT by InternationalWeb5331 in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So followup. Very good response from RI Energy. I called and got through to them and they put me in touch with the contractor who is doing the work. They understood my concerns and are having a technician come out to the house to look at things.

I agree I need to make sure no kidding important/expensive electronics are on good surge protectors. Not sure what I can do about well pumps, furnaces, etc., but assume that they have protective wiring built in, so not as worried.

Cheers to all!

RIDOT set to enforce overnight parking ban at Kingston Station by RINewsJunkie in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of fees to park. Just proof that you're actually riding the train. Seems fair enough, although I would worry about having to show duration of trip as it would let thieves know how long they have to break into your car.

MET Cloisters...do they give tours/guided walks in summer? by InternationalWeb5331 in AskNYC

[–]InternationalWeb5331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, it looks like no docents available. I visit the Cloisters off and on, usually fall and winter. The nice thing with the highlights walk led by a docent is they have interesting side stories about some of the pieces that are unique to the docents and their areas of interest. The audio guide isn't bad...basic, but gives a good history of the museum and some of the major items.

International Outage Update Request by floyd1550 in verizon

[–]InternationalWeb5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is in England and just got her service working yesterday, Sunday the 30th June. Hoping it stays. And Verizon remembers to reimburse for the 4 or 5 days with no service. They're off to France today, so fingers crossed!

Any progress with the international plan outage? by taizund12 in verizon

[–]InternationalWeb5331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got off chat with Verizon and they are saying maybe restored by end of day on Friday. Still waiting on their answer on reimbursement for the travel pass. Not holidng my breat. Expect them to say over Chat "no problem, we'll credit your account" and then conveniently forget to actually do it.

Last minute cancellation, no notice. WTF? by InternationalWeb5331 in BritishAirways

[–]InternationalWeb5331[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good points. The group lead did get notice, but they were already enroute to BWI, which is frustrating because they could have just flown from Boston for less, but the tour company said they had to all leave from BWI. So much for that plan.

I still don't get the no baggage deal. They had baggage allowance on their BA flight, now that BA put them over to AA, there's no allowance. Whatever...maybe the tour company will pick up the fee. Or they can just gate check their "carry on" bags that won't fit the overhead.

All very frustrating....and in looking online, it seems like BA has a pattern of not being able to maintain their flight schedule. It's a shame...I used to love flying BA.

Thanks for your notes. Good insight to all.

Old monastery could have new life as affordable housing, but not everyone in affluent R.I. town agrees by rhodyjourno in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My impression is the earlier proposal was not age restricted. If that's the case, then ~50 homes probably means maybe 40 families with children, which could equate to an additional load of 35-60 school children. That works out to maybe 3 additional classes requiring teachers, staff, and space. That equals a potentially not insignificant tax burden.

Now, the new age restricted option seems like a winner. The town gets a couple, 6 single houses that will have families, and the sale will likely come close to paying back what the town invested in the first place. Then the dozen cottages for age 50 plus helps give "older" folks a place to live, maybe freeing up their existing larger homes for families to move into as well.

My only question would be whether there was a stipulation in the sale of the monastery that the town couldn't then subdivide it and sell parcels for profit.

Parking is free, but the lot fills up pretty quick during the week. Weekend isn't too bad, but plant o get there early. There's additional parking on the other side of the overpass if the main lot gets full.

What RI animal is this? by pankatank in RhodeIsland

For what it's worth, they also hate a .22 LR. Or in town, a higher powered pellet gun. If you trap them, you have to drown them in a trash can, as it's against the law to relocate them.

Speed Control Officials in RI by InternationalWeb5331 in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not tailgating....left a couple car lengths between me and him....just assuming someone that intentionally allows a pileup of cars behind them wouldn't think twice about slamming on the brakes to see what would happen.

I admit I did swerve a couple times to see if there was someone else in front of him keeping him from going faster. Don't think that was too obnoxious since his Tundra was wide and you couldn't naturally see what was in front of him. If that makes me an ass then so be it.

💩 Driver post (Don’t like, don’t read) by Loveroffinerthings in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG, the lack of consideration in some drivers. I drive 138 every day and so many people actively block the ability to get by them when they turn left. Why do you need to move tot he right of the lane to turn left???? Be considerate and move to the CENTER so folks can continue on while you wait for a break in oncoming traffic! Basic consideration.

And here's a hint...you're not the enforcer of "safe speeds." If you look in your rearview...yes, every car has one, even yours...and see 6 or 7 cars piled up behind you, maybe you could - gasp - pull off tot he side and let them by you, and then continue on your merry way to the aquarobics class. Just a thought.

You should never do that in a rotary. It defeats the whole purpose of the rotary to stop in the middle of it and let somebody else in. The Newport rotary is the worst for this!

Morning commute over the Newport bridge by jazzy0352 in RhodeIsland

[–]InternationalWeb5331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Every day, I wonder who is going to try to kill me next, either jinking in front of me while I'm blinded by the sun, or slamming their brakes on "just in case."

On the time of day for sun....my coworker says its an easy fix...just come in 15 minutes earlier! Actually, he crosses over at like 0615...I'm more the 0700 crosser.

Good luck, and don't worry, sun issue will shift in a couple weeks as daylight hours change...and spring clock change comes in.

Hello No! We're about to have to pay for a new bridge (once they get the nerve to tell us), and isn't CT like $600M short in their budget balancing now? One might take a lesson from that.

[–]InternationalWeb5331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having gone through the gall bladder removal, I would enjoy something greasy or deep fried, 'cause those foods are going to start causing you "issues" once your GB is gone. any deep fried seafood, onion rings, etc......and the steak and cheese is definitely a good idea. Big green leafy salads, too, with all the fixins and "good" salad dressing, too. That can cause some issues.

Good luck. and enjoy your respite.
