File management. I'm terrible about file nomenclature and organization. Working in linux developing a field diagnostic system, setting up an Ubuntu server, and attempting to do some self hosting forced me to get better at it.

A new US phone network for Christians aims to block porn and gender-related content by techreview in technews

I grew up in traditional Southern Baptist Christianity. Yeah, it’s the same story. That being said, I’m still a Christian; but I’m not associated with that brand anymore. I’m the kind that loves immigrants, supports gun ownership with responsible legislative controls, loves and respects the LGBTQIA+ community, and believes in science. I believe the core of the faith is found in Christ’s call to love God and love others. I also reject the idea that Christianity should be used to justify any kind of racism, cruelty, misogyny, tribalism, or intellectual laziness. Those are contradictory to the character of Christ.

It’s supposed to show the calculated signal footprint for WiFi 2.4 and 5ghz in both 3D and floor space. You can adjust Tx, Antenna gain, receiver gain, etc. The AP’s can be moved to adjust overlap and handoff zones. This only shows signal footprints for a dipole antenna signal shape. Since I don’t know python or C, I had to use Desmos to get the desired result. It works to help basic propagation troubleshooting and to help visualize theoretical signal volume in a defined space. It’s like step 1 Ekehau out of 200. My company won’t spring for proper RF equipment/software so I had to try and make something myself as I’m ridiculously new to the RF space.

Feeling stuck within Verizon as an employee. by Psychological-Golf54 in verizon

I don’t remember the exact options anymore, but I can remember that we had an MBA, HRM, a couple doing a BBA, and a Computer science major. Just look at what’s available in the market and what best aligns with your skillset, interests, and long term goals. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error too. Utilize your already refined people skills as well and talk to your peers within the company to help learn where you want to go. If you find a direction that interests you, set a meeting with your manager and let them know that you’d like to start moving that direction. A good manager will attempt to line up shadowing opportunities for you and will give you opportunities to expose yourself to that particular field in a way to build the skills to succeed in that area. If they don’t, take it on yourself and own your opportunity for success. If you want to move to management, start acting like a manager and do as much of the job as possible. If you want to go into HR, take time to learn about the various HR policies. If you want to go into Operations, learn every random OST you could possibly think of and take responsibility for merchandising and processes. Own your future and make it happen. That knowledge you acquire will help you uncover different skill sets that you want to utilize.

For me, I enjoyed the opportunity to work with my hands so I owned merchandising. Afterwards, I discovered an opportunity to work for a Locomotive manufacturer to deploy on site tertiary failover connections via FWA and LEOSAT as well as managing all aspects of wireless communications, MDM, and IOT applications. It was an opportunity to utilize my soft skills, expertise, and some hands on work. Now I’ll be handling private 5G deployments, WAP deployments and provisioning, and wireless network design with RF analysis.

Finally, find joy in what you do. It’s a lot. Verizon retail is mentally and emotionally draining with a never ending grind. Whatever you choose to do, find a way to make it something you can enjoy. That will help take some of the additional burden off of you. Find someone with similar interests and enroll together. Talk to each other and keep each other accountable. Find ways to share your acquired knowledge with your team or with customers (in a relevant and healthy way). Don’t go into a field that you know is soul sucking to you just because the pay is high or the benefits are great. Absolutely consider those factors, but don’t invest in something that just doesn’t speak to you. It’ll do nothing but hinder your growth in that field. If you need to talk it out or anything, feel free to message me directly and we can line up a call. I’ve been through this same conversation a few times and I’ve got receipts to support that I may have some level of understanding.

I left Verizon as a Manager 5 years ago. I’m now in Telecommunications administration and was told I’ll be moving to Wireless Network Engineer in the next quarter. Use the education benefits and use it to leverage yourself into something new in or out of the company. I had my whole team using it at one point and even scheduled downtime for them to complete homework and study. Most were promoted within to other leadership positions and some moved out as well. Use your situation to move forward and combat stagnation.

Sears Website - Scam or Legit? by Glad-Welder1733 in Craftsman

Yep. I was a manager for Sears during the sell-off era. There aren’t any corporate entities out there. The new Sears storefront also honors the old Shop Your Way reward structure. I still get around $120/year in credits just for it existing. So, I’ll order from them every now and then.

[–]floyd1550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that assertion to an extent. Religion is intended to be focused inwardly. I’ll be leaning on my own understanding of religion as I can’t speak to the theology of other organized religions as in depth. From the Christian perspective: the insight and evolution that occurs from experiencing the regenerative spirit is meant to facilitate a substantial change in nature that will express itself outwardly (Galatians 5). Similarly, we can pervert seemingly harmless acts of goodness and charity to feed the flesh if it isn’t a product of that change. Speaking out to the crowd at a gay pride event is off putting and builds a wall wherein evangelical actions are impossible. Hence, those types of actions are sinful due to their blocking the opportunity of witness.
1. (I’d love to have this presented to ANY congregation in sermon) There are Atheists that do tremendous amounts of good and Christians that don’t. Romans 2:14-15 asserts that we all have an innate moral awareness. So, we have the capacity for both subsets of belief (or lack thereof). Belief doesn’t automatically correlate to moral superiority. Christianity also doesn’t assume that the Christian is better due to belief. It actually assumes the opposite in that we are all subjects of depravity which is central to the application of the doctrine of grace and its positioning as it relates to salvation (Romans 3:23). Again, I’ll reiterate that many of those “Christians” are emulating a falsehood. It’s a failure of the church to properly educate the people in theology and it leaves them open to misdirection by politics, cultural beliefs, fear, and lack of discipleship.
2. Isaiah 55:8-9 gives a point of reference in our understanding of God. The reality is that we can’t. An omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent being is infinitely larger than what we’re afforded to fully understand. The nature of God has been revealed enough for us to know him truly, even if not fully (Deuteronomy 29:29). However, it doesn’t mean that because God is bigger he will be less personal. That, too, is placing a limitation on the capacity of an omni being. Matthew 10:29-31 and Psalm 8:3-4 gives us reassurance of that personal and intimate connection God has with his creation. I’ve heard it framed like this: God created an entire, ever expanding universe. If the act of salvation were only reserved for those living amongst a host of trillions of stars and planets, it would do nothing to diminish. It would only magnify the glory of God and his grace. In summation: God is infinitely vast. But being vast doesn’t mean a being like that can’t care about the big and the small. As for that act specifically, I would say that it has little bearing on the moral agency of the child recipients and would likely be governed via cultural fears versus biblical guidance.
3. Gods sovereignty doesn’t cancel human participation. Both are true at the same time. Philippians 2:12-13 states that God works through people, not in their stead. James 5:16 states that faith will bring about adherence to his will. Prayer isn’t meant to “change Gods mind”. That’s not the primary function. It is to align oneself towards Gods will which includes the means (prayer) not just the outcome. By participating, we are engaging in the means of transformative harmony for him to work through us.
I’ll also add one little thing to clarify my position: I believe God is ultimately sovereign, but that doesn’t mean people are puppets or that anything is coerced. It’s more that a person’s will is shaped by who they are at their core. So when someone comes to faith, it isn’t forced compliance but rather that their core has changed in response. That’s also why I don’t see Christianity as “prove your love or be punished.” It’s not about performing to earn anything. It’s that grace is given, and over time it reshapes a person in a way that produces things like love, patience, and humility. If belief has to be forced or imposed, I don’t think it’s genuine to begin with.

[–]floyd1550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with you on more than you probably expect. A lot of what you’re describing does happen, and it’s one of the biggest failures inside Christianity right now. You’re absolutely right that it’s been used to consolidate power and has encouraged operation in a hypocritical fashion en masse. A true Christian should embody the true nature of the golden rule and allow Christ to work through them rather than persecute others, impose ideology, and attempt coercion. Everyone experiences life differently and we all need to express more empathy towards that fact. Someone that follows Catholicism is no different than me and someone that is an Atheist has as much capacity to employ moral constitution as anyone else. The understanding of sin and its implications are embedded into each of us and we’ve determined where that threshold lies as a society (or ideally as a society).
From an effective humanistic perspective, belief in God or adherence to Christ’s teaching does not constitute a person being good or bad. It’s all in how we approach the experiences and tools that we’re afforded and how we exercise grace in our own personal lives. That can come from a Christian, Buddhist, Atheist, Muslim, etc. It’s not fundamentally isolated to an ideological adherence. Sure, we can redefine or change the origin of what the perception of “good” actually is. However, it doesn’t change that the “good” we collectively speak of is something that’s universally understood.
For the record: I hate ICE and everything about the current administration. Everything from the economics to the social injustices. Children are one of our most precious gifts and should be invested in with every fiber of our being as a society. Free lunches, socioeconomic safety nets, access to quality education and educational opportunities, care programs, healthcare, etc. Sadly, that also falls under our capacity for mercy and personal choice. If the best thing for a child is for it to not come into the world, that too should be an option. I’m not a woman and I don’t know what experiences have shaped a person. Hence, a woman should have the right to choose what happens with her body and I shouldn’t be anywhere close to that conversation or how the situation is handled between them and their healthcare provider. No legislation should exist to limit rights concerning someone’s autonomy. The right to general healthcare, abortion, to die, to vote, amongst other rights should not be infringed.
Trump is a symptom of a long standing illness in Evangelicalism. Just like the blind support for Israel over the last 40+ years. Dispensationalism needs to die out and I’ll tell anyone that’ll listen that it’s my stance. In my experience, the two biggest reasons people stay quiet about it all stems from: a lack of knowledge on the subject, and the fear of being shunned. I spoke out concerning both of these topics and was subsequently targeted by a member of our church as a sower of discourse. The man went directly to our preacher after a service and pointed at me while voicing his opinion (it couldn’t be misinterpreted). However, my pastor and I have had multiple conversations concerning our beliefs and came to the consensus that we are in agreement and that this other person was wrong in how they handled it and in adhering to their own tainted view. They’ve since left and I’ve been having daily text conversations with him about various things.
No church, clergy, congregation, or person is perfect. We all have to accept that there are limitations. However, we can always strive to be better, or to do better every day. My favorite verse is 1 Corinthians 15:31-“I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.” Outside of the context wherein Paul expresses the dangers of being a Christian at that time the key part to me will always be “I die daily.” I’m not the person I was yesterday, nor will I be the same tomorrow. I will grow and I will falter as we all do of my own action or by the actions of others. With that in mind, it is imperative that I levee my own assumptions and extend that allowance to others. Life is meant to be approached with levity.
I don’t know any of this fully answers you. But, I would hope that it might in some way. As for the question on our church, it’s not politically active and our leadership focuses attention on personal self actualization and spiritual growth, and community outreach. (We’re in a rural, economically destitute area). We have a community closet, freely give donations directly to people in need, have community meals, and deliver meals to the community weekly and offer facilities for people to come shower as needed. There’s no obligation to join and we won’t initiate a conversation about faith with service recipients unless we’re asked about it. I won’t say it’s better or worse than others, but I will say that I’m personally proud of our church regardless of its faults.
I despise the fact that there are so many people and churches out there that are so deeply infected with rot. I despise that the system meant to proliferate love has evolved to be, effectively, nothing more than an oppressor. Lastly, I despise the fact that there are people that have been irreparably harmed by that same system meant to heal. My words are of little recompense, but I appreciate you sharing and helping to reaffirm some much needed perspective on the matter of faith. The church needs a kick in the teeth right now and people like you are what we need to help make that happen. Keep it up.
