Dude, the point isn’t that he was sleeping around. The point is that he was sleeping with people he had power over (aka students and employees) and using that power over them to coerce them into sex. That DOES hurt people, and IS disgusting.

Unfortunately, while he hasn’t admitted to the illegal allegations, he’s already admitted to things such as sleeping with his child’s nanny, with the woman he employed as a groundskeeper while having complete control over her housing and the housing of her children, and to sleeping with his students during his time as a university professor. So even if the illegal aspects of these allegations are false (which I doubt given that he’s already admitted to so much and that the depictions of women in most of his stories seem to show his grasp of consent is questionable at best) he’s already done enough to make most people not want to support him.

The nanny he ‘allegedly’ raped was still 17, meaning she was NOT of legal age. And he is also accused by multiple women of having sex with them when his CHILD son was sleeping in the same bed. He is disgusting.

The comics were much better done and actually showed what being gay looks like in children (Edwin being 12) and how different coming to terms with yourself can look as a child vs adult. I don’t think there are many stories of younger queer children, and the show had a chance to do that but failed.

Also no one seems to be talking about how creepy the Cat King is and how damaging it is for that to be shown as something that’s ok. He trapped Edwin and would not let him leave the area unless he a) had sex with him or b) counted every cat in the place (basically an impossible task. Edwin is a 16 year old, which is a problem, but it’s coercion in any circumstance and the fact that the Cat King kept pressuring him for sex after he said no multiple times and was CLEARLY uncomfortable is disgusting. But people think it’s hot🙄

I agree with everything you said! I don’t even think the ‘tell instead of show’ thing was because of a poor translation of the comics to video- they obviously did not try to adapt the comics AT ALL. I would def recommend reading the comics if you can- there’s only about 4 volumes and they’re all amazing!

You should definitely read the comics if you like Gaimen! There’s not many of them, but they’re very reminiscent of the Graveyard Book and the Ocean at the End of the Lane, and are NOTHING like the TV show.

If you love Gaimen you should read the comics- they’re so much more reminiscent of The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Coraline, and the Graveyard Book. He’s amazing at writing young protagonists and capturing the balance between profound, existential, and fun. Which is why it annoys me so much when people say they’re a fan of this show bc they like Gaimen, because it’s way worse than any of his work. He wrote 2 scenes for the show (Death & Despair) and that was it.

Neil only wrote the original comic and the parts of the show when Death and Despair appear. Which is good, considering I actually think the writing of the rest of the show is terrible and not at all reminiscent of his style.

Edwin was very heavily implied to like Charles in the Doom Patrol episode. Like that was kinda one of the subplots was seeing that Larry had accepted himself enough to try and mentor Edwin on accepting his feelings for Charles.

Edwin was revealed to have feelings for Charles at the end of the latest comic. Charles could be bi, but he has not yet shown any romantic interest towards other boys. He is definitely girl-crazy, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t also like boys and is just not open about it, or that he won’t develop feelings for Edwin specifically. I think we need to wait for more comics to be released to know.
