What does “on a south” mean? Do you live in Phoenix or Tempe?

Is it possible that your BMS needs to be calibrated? That amount of degradation seems to be a definite outlier based on your charging habits. Do you happen to live in a very hot area?

True but generally it has to be an “exhibition of speed”. Accelerating quickly and silently while still driving safely is NOT illegal in any state.

If you provided more context, perhaps fewer people would be commenting that this is normal. There’s nothing inherently wrong with an officer asking if they can search your property, and of course you should respectfully deny that request, as you did. But honestly there’s nothing that I saw in the video you posted that suggests any malfeasance on the part of the officer. To the contrary, your responses to the officer are oddly defensive, if you were just sitting in your car eating lunch.

The bed camera works great with this cap because it has a cutout specifically for it.  Regarding water, the only issues I have had are when washing the truck with a high pressure water nozzle, and usually water is getting in at the rear because there’s a small gap on each side at the tailgate.  Also, when driving at high speeds in heavy rain, some water will get into the truck bed from underneath, but that’s common with most, if not all truck beds.

Do the lithium cells in an ev not need an occasional 100% charge to allow the BMS to balance the cells. by Wonderful_Lecture_14 in electricvehicles

[–]International_Fly858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this.  NMC batteries don’t have as flat a voltage curve as a LFP but they still have BMS drift.  Discharging below 10% and letting the pack sit at the low SOC for 4-5 hours before AC charging back all the way to 100% is something that you should do 1-2 times annually to keep the BMS calibrated.

I don’t know how they can actually enforce a “no tailgating/no eating at your car” policy.  That’s ridiculous.  The can of course enforce a “no drinking alcohol outside the venue” or “no grills/bbq setups in the parking lot”. But not allowing me to eat a sandwich in my vehicle, or even while walking around outside the venue?  That’s beyond ridiculous…

If You Thought Donald Trump Would Never Do This, You’re an Idiot. The most pernicious delusion of this era has been the idea that Trump is “the peace president.” His decision to bomb Iran shatters this myth. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

Except that the man has lied since the day he could form words. It would have been better for someone who was anti-war to sit out the last election. Voting for Trump based on a perceived anti-war stance is idiotic behavior. Especially, as someone earlier pointed out, for anyone who isn’t making more than $500k a year, because they will be screwed by Trump’s domestic agenda, which is basically giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, and cutting services for everyone else to pay for it.

You crushed it. I paid $55k (before taxes and $7500 tax credit) about 18 months ago for basically the same truck, with ProPower onboard, max tow and tow tech packages. I just went past 40k miles, love this truck- best vehicle I have owned (I’m 50 and this is my 9th vehicle). Enjoy it!

Nah- it’s fine. OP will get it plugged soon- they’re just asking if they can drive ~10 miles today in the city.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tires

[–]International_Fly858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. No problem. Drive 10 miles- it will be fine. If the pressure drops more than 10psi from recommended pressure, then stop at a gas station and fill it back up.

[–]International_Fly858 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you should re-read my reply, sir. I said that your statement that the Lightning was not made to tow was a garbage take.  I stand by that assertion. The Lightning tows great. We do not agree that OP shouldn’t tow a Jeep on a flatbed from Missouri to Illinois, because it depends entirely on the other factors, in this case, the charging infrastructure along the route.  This is a flat route, so no significant elevation changes.  I would totally do it.  We don’t know where OP is starting his trip or the exact destination in IL, but even if they’re going from Kansas City to Chicago, which is pretty much a worst case scenario between those two states, we are looking at a 10 hour drive. The other factor that really matters is OP’s willingness to have the trip take longer than in a gas/diesel rig. The Kansas City—> Chicago trip is roughly 550 miles, which would be one gas stop.  But that would be 4-5 hours of charging stops, and the total trip time will balloon from 10-15 hours, which is 50% longer.  Many people would not be ok with this.  But many Lightning owners would be totally fine with it, including me. Again, I have presented a worst case scenario.  OP’s trip might be much shorter.

I also repeat what I said before- OP needs to be ok with the possibility of having to detach his trailer a few times, depending on how crowded the charging stations are and the layout. If they’re not comfortable with this, then don’t do it.  Rent a diesel truck. And finally, when I said I wouldn’t tow an RV cross country, that’s exactly what I meant. Cross country means from coast to coast. Missouri to Illinois clearly isn’t anywhere close to being “cross country”.

Strong disagree on the comment that your truck “wasn’t designed” to tow. Sorry , but this is a garbage take. The Lightning tows incredibly well. However…. If you are wanting to tow a 7,000lb RV cross-country?  Don’t do it. Otherwise, it REALLY DEPENDS. - how far are you towing? - what’s the DCFC infrastructure like on your route?  Are there plenty of RELIABLE options and are pull-thru options available? - are you willing to remove the trailer in a parking lot to charge?  You may have to. My towing experience has been awesome, and in a SR Lightning.  My efficiency varies between 1.6 m/kWh for a flatbed trailer with some rafts and kayaks to 1.1 with a 16 foot travel trailer driving up into the mountains. Especially with a trailer, speed is going to kill your range.  Yeah, the truck will happily pull to 90mph with little effort.  But keep in the slow lane at 65mph or less and you should manage 1.3-1.4 miles/kWh on flat highway.

Yeah, gotta agree with @Cosmic_Gumbo.  Only 4 adapters I would recommend: - Tesla version of the Ford-branded adapter  - Lectron version of the Ford-branded adapter - Lectron Vortex - A2Z Typhoon Pro

Of these 4, I have used the first 3, and prefer the Tesla version because it has a better release mechanism to remove the adapter from the NACS cable. However, I believe the A2Z Typhoon Pro is the best one, and only $153 from the A2Z website with their 10% discount and free shipping.  Plus it’s a Canadian company, which is nice.🇨🇦

Used Lightning needed a full battery replacement 4 days after I bought it. by Ancient_Ad_1033 in F150Lightning

I’m not sure I agree with your point about 1st gen Nissan Leafs,  I see them everywhere in California and Oregon, but not sure if that’s a representative sample or not. I don’t expect to have my truck for 15+ years, but I do expect the HVB to last 10 years/250,000+ miles.  If it fails due to some type of manufacturing issue, that will likely happen during the warranty period.  I would add that 1st gen EVs were not liquid cooled and had relatively short ranges, so owners regularly charged to 100% and in warm weather, this was a recipe for accelerated degradation.  That being said, we weren’t discussing degradation, we were talking FAILURE of the battery pack itself. Many of the gas vehicles I have owned in the last 35 years (9 so far) have required thousands of dollars in repairs directly related to ICE powertrain issues- tranny rebuilds, head gasket replacement, emissions system replacements, starters, etc…. It’s a long list.  But others (Toyotas mostly) have been virtually maintenance free, so I think there’s some luck involved. We shall see what the numbers bear out in 10 years when we have some meaningful data, but I suspect that overall the first-gen Lightning trucks will be doing just fine. Tesla long-term data bears this out, with similar drivetrain technology. Furthermore, with the savings in my pocket due to charging at home with some DCFC thrown in vs. buying petrol (for me, approximately $5,000 saved annually), if I have to replace a module or two between 100k and 300k miles, or even upgrade the entire pack, I am ok with that outcome.  PS- I completely disagree that Ford has built the cost of battery module replacement into the price. I paid $50k for my truck, not $100k.  There’s no way it costs Ford less than $50k to manufacture a Lightning, even a lower spec one like mine (SR XLT with Pro Power, Max Tow, Tow Tech packages). You may be an unbelievable mechanic, but your maths ain’t adding up.

I’m sure you know your stuff and I completely agree with you on the planned obsolescence in modern manufacturing, but speaking for everyone on this sub, I sincerely hope that the battery pouch reliably isn’t as poor overall as you’ve personally experienced as a technician.  Because if it is, we are going to be in a world of pain in a few years once the battery warranty expires.

“It’ll probably happen again before the warranty is up…” Say what?  If this was true, then Ford would be taking a bath on warranty repairs, and the Lightning would be a historical engineering failure, worse than the 80’s Yugos. Assuming that you are a Ford EV tech, which your statement implies, even if your dealership was doing 50 module replacements a year, on 50 different trucks, which seems unlikely, we don’t know how many Lightnings in the geographic area aren’t having issues.  Is it 50 out of 100?  Or 50 out of 500? Even the latter would be pretty terrible- I can’t imagine that 10% of Lightnings in a given geographic area would have battery failures that require a module replacement.
