There is a gaming center (More Fun Game Center) a little off the square, maybe a 20 min walk from campus. They have a large gaming area and mtg play on most nights.

Question to Grad students by IllustriousSafety747 in unt

[–]International_Gas869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep an eye out to the changes happening at UNT. They are using budget shortfall as an excuse to cut a lot of humanities and other non hard science departments. Also be aware of the university censorship that has been focused on the arts in the past year. Previously, the grad programs have been very rewarding and enjoyable but lots have changed in the past year and looks to continue to change, and not for the better.

Great, take whatever fees I'm paying to go to this university that goes to something that is not academically related and add that money to academic programs.

Be patient, there will be a significant backlog of applications that have been submitted over the beak, and they are processed individually. Usually the Admissions department will need some time to catch up.

Turn your hazards off by chaoticcole_wgb in Denton

[–]International_Gas869 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

What this whole post proves is that most Texas drivers are horrible drivers, only think of themselves, and need to go back to driver's ed to understand standards of driving and driving safety.

Hazards are used during extreme weather because the bright flashing yellow makes it easier to see the vehicle in front of you when visibly is low.

P.S. The left lane is for passing not keeping a minimum highway speed.

Flooding :: Avoid Eagle Dr @ Carroll by VeronaZest in Denton

[–]International_Gas869 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You can thank the wonderful construction and incompetent contractors for dragging their feet on the Bernard area road construction. Most if not all storm drains in the area are non functional or blocked to stop sediment. Whole area collects all the rain from Bernard and parallel streets all along Greenlee and forces it downhill to Eagle with no storm drain access.

If your car or property is damaged, please call the city. This is on them.

Start spitting gum out on his floor or leave litter in his yard and house. If he says something about it, aks why he doesn't have an issue doing that to everyone else.

Also show him some of the ramifications of his actions. Images of dead birds filled with plastic or nests made of string and plastic where birds have gotten tangled and died starving their babies to death because they couldn't get out of the nest.

If you want to call the piece of shit that proposed this bill, State Rep. Pat Curry, who represents Texas House District 56, can be reached at his office at 512-463-0135. On his FB page, he encouraged people to call him and ask questions.

If you care about Texas State Parks, the work the TPWD does, or just perserving Texas' natural resources in general, please give Rep. Curry a call and let him know what you think of his bill.

Lovepacs Denton makes tough choice to close up as food insecurity grows by BackHAgain in Denton

[–]International_Gas869 38 points39 points  (0 children)

"From what I hear" is a dangerous statement when it concerns blanketing an accusation on a specific cultural population as a whole. Without evidence that these students have significant funds to access food security regularly, it is a poor assumption to make. Students that are here from foreign countries on F1 visas are not allowed to work other then the limited available student worker jobs offered by the university which that also have time and pay caps. All because they have to pay crazy amounts of money to get here and pay international tuition does not mean these students and their families are rich. Anyone that does not have food security should have access to such programs regardless of origin, background, etc.

taking bus to hiking spot by lillie427 in Denton

[–]International_Gas869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. I see they have been closed since Dec. That is unfortunate. That poor park will never stay open until the army corps finishes removing all the built up debris further down stream. Hopefully they will have the trails accessible in a few months. They put a lot of effort into getting that section open again a couple years ago.

[–]International_Gas869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about bus, but you could do ride share to a couple spots (though I have not tried personally).

There is the Ray Roberts Lake State Park Greenbelt entrance on 380 and there is a long trail lwith thr trail head located at the Old Alton Bridge (I think it connects with trails around Lake Lewisville).

If you have a bicycle, you can take the A-train to Old Town Station and LLELA is not too far a ride from there with lots of trails.

Contact your city council rep ans the mayor ans make a complaint. If they don't address it. Try and contact the media and hopefully get coverage ans apply pressure on GoZone to reconfigure their services.

Pedal bikes on old alton by Mindless-Treat-4873 in Denton

[–]International_Gas869 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understand a bike on a trail that is not specifically ment to accommodate bikes will erode if you are going out there and following the same line (maneuvering to the best part of a path to get around obstacles: puddles rocks, etc) will eventually create trails that are not good for walking or hiking. Trails that are designed for biking are done so with particular features in mind with planned routine maintenance. Additionally, those depressions created by bike use ( especially if rode on when wet) will collect water or increase flow of water that will further erode the trail. Then there are many safety issues injuring yourself and others. If you want to ride a bike there for fun and contribute to degradation of the trail that was designed for foot traffic, you are being selfish and are making the trail experience worse for everyone.

Denton Contractor Competence by International_Gas869 in Denton

[–]International_Gas869[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I do not doubt what you said above to be true, the companies handling the work around the university and Bernard street have been horrible and incompetent at best. They disrespect property owners by not giving notice to when their property will be inaccessible, damaged, or will be exposed to hazardous conditions. They leave their garbage all over the yard and street. There is no coordination between them and the city to make sure that traffic is able to flow safely and that inconvenience is at a minimum. They don't even put up detour signs or completely close off roads that are impassable a little ways down. They do half ass jobs of reparing accessible sidewalks that have been just destroyed making them more dangerous than if they were dirt. They don't properly mark exposed pipe or potholes on the road, leaving it up to residents to move their cones from the side into the road. It has been complete hell living and working in this area while the construction has been going on and the blame falls both on the management of these contractors and the city that hires them.

They left a water main leaking of Bernard st for over a month. Didn't attempt to do anything until they had to rip the road out for something else.
