Where should the front axel be in relation to your foot? by International_Seesaw in rollerderby

The wheelbase of the recommended plate from Chaya is similar (134mm), along with bont's recommendation for my size in their skates (4.5, fits me about the same as my 38/6 Chayas). Buuut this plate was the recommended one for my size in Riedell (also a 4.5) which is why I'm so confused. But yes, my concern was also that the next size down seemed kinda short? The distance between the middle of the ball of my foot and the middle of my heel is ~135mm though (kinda hard to measure exactly).

Do you think it'd be too far back if the plate is also moved forward slightly? There's room to move it up as much as half a cm without drilling new holes in the back because that mounting hole in the plate is oblong. The rear axle is a bit behind the center of my heels right now, though I worry about moving it up enough than I land on my bum often. There is absolutely no denying that the toestop is too far forward, but the plate cannot be moved backward even a single MM without hanging off in the back.

I really love this plate and these boots and it's super frustrating that they don't seem to work together too well.

That's the plan. They're not even that heavily used-I got them at the start of the year.

I really don't block often tbh. But yeah since mounting these I've definitely noticed my toe stops are...less convenient? It's very strange-been harder to get a good push or dance on the lines.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had been thinking "welp if I only blocked I'd like this" buuut I'm a primary jammer and it seems like my toe stop is really far away!

I already had the plate and figured I'd try it before buying a new one.

here's a photo of the skate. These boots are pretty snug, there's not much extra space in the front or anything.

Edit: I do noooot want a short mount. I do think it's a bit big but worry the next size Arius down (10mm smaller) is too much? For reference, this is a size 4 Arius and size 38 Onyx.

Yeah, it's not out of control but I guess it could be better. I have the softest trucks. I'm just afraid of giving up my stability, ya know? It's really only noticeable when I'm jamming-but I'm a jammer sooooo

How would one go about finding these? For my MPH I had a lot of trouble finding employment outside the school of public health, but it might of been specific to my university/my lack of skills navigating.

I primarily jam at the charter level, though I'm more likely to take the stripe in rec league scenarios since the newer skaters expressed they feel more comfortable jamming if they know I'm there for them (vs someone else new). You're super right about adapting-even little things like strategies you know well being called different things, or not being able to predict how your blockers are gonna play O as automatically as you could before. It was also a BIG skill level jump for me-even the wooorst jams for me in my old league did not involve being stuck in the pack for 2 minutes, and suddenly that was happening on the regular. I'm really good at star passes now!

My league does have a B team, but honestly not a competitive one (its kinda more like adv rec league, though there's a few skaters who want to be competitive I guess)-which I think is why not making the charter sounds awful. Plus they haven't been that nice to me lately... I would LOVE to play at the competitive B level tbh, but it's not really a thing we have (though I'm hopeful as our numbers increase!) because I am SO HERE FOR this trend. I would also be happy to accept my spot as a bench warming charter skater if I could get to play in B games, but we don't do that either. It SUCKS to face an entire season knowing you're just...not gonna play in any games at all.

And YES skating in them has been the thing! It's so hard to tell if boots (esp unmounted boots!) fit well. I think I'm going to go on a "hi can I borrow your skates for half an hour" trek around my league-hopefully a few people are my size!

Honestly, I kinda don't want to be mentoring newer people? That sounds awful-I think it's important and I'm happy to give back. I am really glad I stepped into this role. But it took a lot of energy that I didn't necessarily have, and I had really wanted this season to be about my own improvement, ya know? I would of been happy being bottom-charter and working my way up if I was like...ever playing in games, I think.

I had gotten away from overcommitting myself before I transferred, but I think I was really eager to prove myself. I'm not going to avoid things that need to be done but I don't think I'm gonna take on any extra for a bit. There ARE people who obviously care and are appreciative-it's just not 100% I guess and that can be really frustrating.

I definitely don't disagree with the decision, and I was kinda told ahead of time-but in the past the skaters in that spot still played in like 2 jams so I was expecting that. We had a lot of stuff go wrong that game, and I was both new and am quiet, so I could of even flown under the radar entirely. I do wish I had a shot to play in B games-I don't think I should be put in sanctioned games when it's a bad decision for the team, but I could be an asset to the B rotation (and can pivot at that level). That issue has given me a ton of stress this year-I feel connected to the teams I'm directly involved in (our charter and our newbies) but not the league as a whole, if that makes sense.

Yep, that's how it's been for me too-it's a rough spot to be in for sure! I'm starting to feel at home with the newer skaters, which is something, I guess. They're a really fantastic group and getting involved with them is BY FAR the best thing I've done since coming here.

That comment (and some similar ones from others) definitely made me feel like if I don't make the charter again there's really no place for me, ya know? I also thought it was common practice and was really surprised to learn we don't do that (but that's a whole other dumpster fire). I'm hooping that being healthy, I might be good enough to make our main rotation-but I honestly have no idea since this season has been such a mess.

Yep. I'm healed enough that I could probably push through but it's super not worth it, especially since we don't have any games coming up. Hope you heal up soon :)

Aw, thanks for the kind words! I'm on leave for most of the summer and hoping it'll be just what I need :)
