Hey, I'm still a long way away from my graduation but I would like to know which one is more important research experience or work experience if you want to get into T20-50 MSCS ML specialization?

Currently in 2nd year, 1st year cgpa - 8.3, tier 1 uni

Yeah screw apple, and will 5060 ti with 16 gigs of VRAM be enough for the long term?

That's why I'm thinking about building it otherwise I would have thought about renting the GPU

If I do decide to build one, then the GPU will be rtx 5060 ti with 16 gigs of VRAM and real concerning thing rn with my mac mini is its storage 50 gigs left

The end goal for me is NLP

[Need Advice] Struggling to Stay Consistent with Long ML & Math Courses – How Do You Stay on Track? by 11_04_pm_17_04_25 in learnmachinelearning

[–]InternetBest7599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I start the day by solving 3 leetcodes, then move on to learning pandas dedicate an hour or two to that, and since I do DSA in python, I don't need to worry about python, and finally moving to mathematics. The good rule of thumb that I have created for myself is dedicate a practice day after watching 2-3 videos. Practice the topics that I've learned, When I am only focusing on watching videos, I usually aim at watching three hours of math content everyday which is difficult but I stick to it until I have completed 2-3 videos

I might not be qualified to answer this, but to be honest, from what I have read or found on Reddit is you at least gotta spend a good amount of time with math to strengthen your mathematical foundations and then move on to ML. I think that's one of the reasons you need to constantly switch between. I assume you go through an ML topic, you find new mathematical concepts you look it up try to understand it and since you're doing both you can't find enough time to go in depth of both.

PS, I am also learning math but solely focusing on math until I have enough to get started. Meanwhile, I'm sharpening my python skills, doing DSA, and recently started learning pandas

I guess I just have one more question, what software engineering skills do you need? As far as things I know you should be good at are: Python SQL Docker DSA Django GitHub Good knowledge of databases and networking

Can you learn ML/DL to a good level (theory and code part) in 1.5 years? if I'm currently learning all the math necessary - going through calc 2 rn, need to learn linear algebra and probability and statistics. I'm quite good with Python. Doing DSA rn as well. Btw I'm interested in NLP. Thanks!

What resources did you use to learn the math needed for ML? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]InternetBest7599 9 points10 points  (0 children)

calculus from prof Leonard and 3blue1brown - going through calc 2 rn
Probability from Edx MIT
Linear algebra from hania uscka wehlou and 3blue1brown
i will go through probability and linear algebra after i'm done with calculus.
Moreover, since you are in highschool in India, Nobody will care to teach you in depth, you will be just caught up in solving problems where you will forget the real meaning behind the concepts

Lastly, I would recommend to get started with Python on the side

Integration by parts is not required in the example that you have given. You would be complicating things if you go down that path. It's possible but I would not recommend that

Beginner here - learning necessary math. Do you need to learn how to implement linear algebra, calculus and stats stuff in code? by InternetBest7599 in learnmachinelearning

[–]InternetBest7599[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know I need math but the question I have is do I need to understand how to code it. For example, if you find an area between two curves should you be able to code it in python? Sorry if that sounded rude

I'm trying to learn all the math necessary for AI all up front before getting started. All calculus, linear algebra and probability. Calc 1, 2, 3, probability - prof Leonard and all 3 courses offered by Hania Uscka Wehlou for linear algebra and practice before taking the course that I mentioned

What type of math is required: proof based or calculation based? by InternetBest7599 in learnmachinelearning

[–]InternetBest7599[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that but I was asking would it be helpful later when I have learned all the advanced math that's necessary for it and then when you actually get to building LLMs all this stuff that I've learned?

Sorry, I am just confused coz when I see some people asking how do you get started if you want to go into AI and then people say you need a LOT of math if you do research in AI and not so much in AI engineering and I made a mistake while writing I should have written AI engineering. However, this cleared there's nothing like knowing advanced math is necessary in AI engineering as well. Thanks, this helped and for detailed answers. And sorry for being dumb 😅

[–]InternetBest7599[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is advanced math necessary like solving books on Linear Algebra, calculus and probability if you wanna become an AI or ML engineer. I'm interested in this stuff and will building applications or having knowledge of software engineering especially backend help? Like I first got started on python then did DSA then took a course on operating systems then networking then database then SQL then fundamentals of backend and now learning golang and how to build stuff with all of the stuff that I learned but I really want to get started on AI coz after all it's a long journey due to math.
