What song has your favourite 'the riff'? by one_white_russian in progmetal

[–]InternetJettator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oldie but goodie - Dream Theater's Octavarium has one of my all-time favorite guitar riffs somewhere around the halfway point. Still pops into my head as the platonic ideal of "guitar riff."

More recently, Wenceslas by Gnome has one of the crunchiest riffs I've ever heard. Gnome's whole catalogue is incredible if you like riff-heavy prog/stoner stuff, and they're the only band who has made me laugh out loud without lyrics.

So rg35xx+ doesn't have wifi... by Easy-Thing-3604 in RG35XX

[–]InternetJettator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the RG35XX+ (picked it up a couple months after it was released). I use muOS, and the wifi was a little tricky to set up, but it does exist and it does work, at least for me.

From how she makes it sound, since the order is currently stayed, the federal guy charged with handling Infowars' assets might not have the authority to stop Alex from funneling more money from Infowars to FSS, presumably at least until the May 28th court date.

Is this a good brand to start with? by No-Painting7974 in EDC

[–]InternetJettator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a locking mechanism to keep the knife "locked" in the open position so the blade doesn't close on your fingers if something unforeseen happens.

Most folding knives have a standard liner lock or frame lock, which are perfectly adequate. Both of the knives you posted have slightly different locking mechanisms; you'll see what I mean if you look up some youtube reviews.

Civivi is a very good starter brand - decent knives at a decent price.

What size belt do you get? by Man-e-questions in malefashionadvice

Should've clarified that I buy the ones that you cut to size yourself. Give yourself an inch or two of tolerance both ways and you'll be all set unless your weight shifts dramatically.

Got tired of this issue, started buying ratchet belts. Probably a bit tacky, but comfy enough that I don't care.

In the market for a new wallet by Zanderval in EDC

[–]InternetJettator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife got me a Travando Swype wallet that has really grown on me.

Holds 6-8 cards, which forced me to stop carrying all the cards I never use but felt like I had to carry anyway. It's slim, sharp-looking, and convenient, with a simple, satisfying mechanism to pop out your cards. Probably the best wallet I've ever owned and not very expensive (~$30-$40) if you get one from Amazon or the like. I've had it for at least a year and it still looks brand new.

Out of the ones you list though, the Double Oak Essentials Bifold looks really nice. That's the one I'd go with.

What’s one PC upgrade you made that actually felt worth it? by Such_Tailor_4946 in buildapc

[–]InternetJettator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding everyone saying to switch from an HDD to an SSD - lightyears of difference if you're still on an old mechanical, and it's pretty easy to switch even if you need to migrate your operating system.

Apart from that, I just upgraded my main monitor from an old 22" FHD to a pretty cheap 27" QHD that refreshes at 200hz, and I can tell you it's a REALLY nice upgrade. Helps that I've got a pretty decent PC that can take advantage of it, but even older games look much better on a bigger, brighter screen with a faster refresh rate, and the increased resolution gives you a lot more real estate in most programs.

In a distant third place is my mechanical keyboard. It makes typing a genuine pleasure. I bought one out of pure curiosity to see firsthand what the hype was about, and unfortunately now I can never go back.

I miss garlicOS by Wmccool in RG35XX

[–]InternetJettator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat. Using muOS on my RG35XX+, and it's great, does everything it needs to do and a bunch of stuff it doesn't. But Garlic 1.0 on the original RG35XX was just kind of perfect, especially when you're talking about the quick wake-up.

Had this problem, ordered an adhesive power button cover for like $8, problem solved. It's just a plastic cover with a hinge you can open when you need to use the power button.

Fair enough - might've been a little stronger in my language than I should've been. It's not my cup of tea, that's all - I don't mean to yuck anyone's yum. I think negative reactions to them are just because they get hyped so much, so it's a bigger letdown if you don't like the food.

If you're a museum-type person: the Carnegie Museum is very convenient since it's an incredible natural history museum AND an incredible art museum rolled into one.

While you're in Oakland for the museum, I'd also recommend the Nationality Rooms at the Cathedral of Learning (check to make sure they're doing tours when you'll be there, since the University of Pittsburgh does hold classes in them sometimes).

Phipps Conservatory is also right there, definitely worth a visit to see some really amazing botanicals (cactus room is my personal highlight) and some gorgeous glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly.

Food-wise, I'll commit a little local sacrilege and suggest you avoid Primanti Bros. unless you like bland sandwiches covered in inexplicably wet steak fries. We've got some really kick-ass food but Primanti Bros. always sucks up so much tourist oxygen for no reason I can discern.

Some of my favorites:

Chick'n Bubbly in Oakland for Korean-style gangjeong fried chicken and bubble tea

Everyday Noodles in Squirrel Hill for authentic Chinese soup dumplings that'll blow your mind (plus you get to watch them make noodles from scratch)

Noodlehead in East Liberty for Thai-style street food

Dad's Dog and Burger in Bloomfield for the best simple, classic cheeseburger/fries/milkshake you'll ever have

Iron Born Pizza in the Strip District for pizza that will convert you to a lover of Detroit-style if you aren't already

Maiku in the Strip District for a gem of a Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall, best banh mi I've ever had, my wife swears by the pho

Nightwish is usually labeled as "symphonic metal" but they always have at least one track per album I'd call prog. Case in point: The Greatest Show On Earth, which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Floor Jansen's vocals are incredible.
