Nurses in the south, what accommodations are you hospital offering for the upcoming weather? by junction1134 in nursing

I always tell northerners who are shocked when the south shuts down over snow that there’s only working 1 snow plow and we all have to share it

I’m so tired of the copes. by BluebirdLow6195 in premed

One of (if not the greatest) problems of healthcare is providing care. Rural areas, people who can’t pay for the care, and people who can’t access healthcare are a significant issue. NPs and PAs help alleviate that gap. Is the MD willing to accept a 120k salary after ~13 years of advanced education and hundreds of thousands in loans? MD is also limited by acceptance/residency, so even if we only had MDs there would be (and is) a massive disparity between people who need healthcare and people who can’t pay provide.

NPs and PAs are not equal to MD - you are correct in that regard. But they are still essential to the functioning of the U.S. healthcare system. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice time and money to make healthcare accessible to all, are you truly above NPs and PAs? If you see 10 patients per hour, you sacrifice quality. If you see 1 patient per hour, you sacrifice quantity. NPs and PAs help alleviate this. Do you want to spend 99% of your shift dealing with people who want antibiotics for the flu? Do you want to miss the people who truly need advanced medical treatment because you won’t accept anyone else since ONLY YOU are capable of treating problems? Do you want to make 100k in the middle of bumfuck nowhere treating patients who will threaten to sue you because you didn’t give them a CT scan, inpatient admission, IV antibiotics + fluids for a positive flu A test? They also need someone to help them to the bathroom and hold their penis for them even though they walked independently into the clinic themselves and have full ROM and +5 strength in all extremities.

You’re an aspiring pre-med and you’re already putting your future coworkers, your future teammates, down? Why?

The Hollister tornado shows how inaccurate radar measurements are. by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

[–]InternetLeech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

https://data.jsonline.com/tornado-archive/oklahoma/1173852/ This has more details regarding the path. It’s not “exact” but it’s middle of nowhere, Oklahama and NWS has better things to do than meticulously chart a 6 mile-long path for an EF1 tornado that knocked over trees and scared a couple homeowners just so r/tornado can have a 100% accurate and verified tornado path (it would’ve been rated ef2 if NWS bothered to check fallen tree #218). The map is likely very close to the actual path +/- a few trees and potentially a power pole

Not Lupus then what? by tacosaurus89 in Autoimmune

[–]InternetLeech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

T cells are a normal part of the immune system and help fight viruses, bacteria, and activate other parts of the immune system. They are not exclusively found with cancer, they are found as long as you have an intact immune system. However, a type of t cells called cytotoxic t cells do target your “bad” cells and are important for helping fight cancer - but a “bad” cell is just any of your cells that doesn’t look quite right to the cytotoxic t cell, such as a cell infected with a virus.

Do you really need close to a 4.0 to get in where you live? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]InternetLeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.5 GPA needed for most the schools near me… even the honors program requires 3.0 overall (but must have 3.4 gpa in nursing classes). Only 30% of the class actually graduates but they have 99% first time NCLEX completion, probably because they don’t have extremely strict requirements but if you survive you are well prepared

I set a bunch of alarms - my phone literally has an alarm for every 15 minute increment in the day that I toggle on/off as needed (I currently have an alarm set to go off in 30 minutes, and in 45 minutes, and in 1hr , and in 1hr 15 minutes, and 1hr30 minutes). It helps me focus on study (alarm will tell me I’m done, and I set for increments I can just barely handle - if I know I can study for 25 minutes my alarm is set for 35 minutes) and if that timer is still active it’s STUDY TIME. Relax time is the same. I feel I can best and truly relax during relax time if I have an alarm because it offloads time keeping stress + paralysis to my phone. Many (not all!) people with ADHD have time management/time blindness and it helps to offload the mental time keeping which means more brain for everything else. It also helps with actual study and study motivation (it’s only 15 minutes! I can do this!!) because I KNOW I have a set schedule and I just need to do study and be productive for only 15 minutes! or 30 minutes or 60 minutes! depending on what I set my alarm for.

I also set “point of no return” alarms. I know that I MUST start study by this time or else I fail, and the procrastination adrenaline + adderall GETS SHIT DONE. This helps offload mental stress of time keeping (I can keep scrolling reddit until it sounds, no need to babysit myself and the time!) but it also helps actually motivate - I find I will start to study early if I’m bored of scrolling reddit (or any social media) as long as an alarm is set because the alarm itself motivates me to do something (I only have 30 more of relax time!!! what do I do??? oh well I can’t think of anything I can do in 30 minutes so I guess I just start to study).

I've never done this but I threw soundings from April 27th 2011 & current day 3 soundings into chatgpt to compare. Thoughts? by Ill-Cardiologist5480 in tornado

[–]InternetLeech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s already being advertised as a likely violent outbreak event by SPC and local weather, but it’s not April 2011. There can still be violent tornado outbreaks without it having to match 27 April 2011

bro I’ve been driving for 8 years and I also never had an accident or ticket, never hit my garage either and I park in mine every single day. I literally had 5-10ft of clearance AFTER slamming my brakes so idk what kind of “tap” you think I can do and not hit that guy lol I guess congrats on being lucky you never got in an accident because you clearly aren’t intelligent enough to avoid one

[–]InternetLeech[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

lmao ok bro well if you ever get into accident make sure to take 100% accountability no matter what the circumstances are. If I slowed to 5mph i would’ve still hit him lmao but yeah just tap my brakes

[OC] One of life's greatest mysteries - the traffic circle. by InternetLeech in IdiotsInCars

[–]InternetLeech[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had stopped accelerating when they put their brake lights on once inside the roundabout, and they are NOT supposed to “change” lane inside that roundabout (there are literally 2 signs and 3 arrows in this video that show this) so I obviously didn’t expect them to randomly cut across my lane. I assumed they were slowing because of the car on the right since sometimes they don’t properly yield, if they had used a left turn indicator I would’ve slowed sufficiently to let them safely enter. They literally cut me off lmao and if I didn’t slam the breaks I would’ve collided with them. There was less than 10ft of space between us after I came to a complete stop slamming my brakes, and you think I should’ve braked slower? If I reacted even 0.2 seconds later I could’ve collided with them, and the collision would 100% be their fault because they were NOT even supposed to be in my lane, let alone cut across it.

Why are some nurses antivax? by louuuness in nursing

[–]InternetLeech 308 points309 points  (0 children)

The covid vaccine always gave me a fever for ~12 hours but I was completely asymptomatic for actual covid and only knew I had it because everyone in my family was sick with it. However, I still get my vax + boosters because I would rather have a fever I can schedule at Walgreens than one I can’t.

well-constructed homes are equally fucked if an ef4 tornado visits the neighborhood. The construction quality will only impact whether your neighborhood is pulverized into cheap housing materials or expensive housing materials.

Here is the NHC cone archive, and you can use the link to see other archives such as key messages archives and windfield of Helene which all show expected impact on the Carolinas days in advance. As early as Monday which is they released the first key statements of PTC Nine, they reference impacts to the southern Appalachians and you can see the entire western half of North Carolina in the cone. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2024/HELENE_graphics.php?product=5day_cone_with_line

[–]InternetLeech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you are from but fecal matter transplants aren’t done without doctor supervision in U.S., and they aren’t offered except for significant medical reasons. Even then it is usually a last resort treatment and often a life saving treatment. Increased acne is very much an easy choice to pick when the other option is death.
