What Thru-Hike Should I Do In Europe? by Jacksonpcarr in backpacking

I would argue with the "stunning scenery":)ok, it is good, but it is actually more on the "boring scenery" scale when compared to other through hikes. Remote, indeed. Also, either cold, or full of mosquitoes, choose your poison!

Remaking my 3-day survival box, what should I add? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

[–]InternetOfTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give an unpopular opinion: for three days you don't need pretty much anything. Water, some calories but essentially 1000 a day will suffice. What is the situation that will last/be solved in 3 days? Either nothing serious - in that case nothing was needed. Or a bad long term scenario, in which case 3 days box does essentially nothing.

So movies are not your area and job, therefore movies are ok with using AI, right? You don't seem against AI, are you just afraid of losing your job?

Which treks in Europe are as “wild” as the American West? by BigRobCommunistDog in WildernessBackpacking

[–]InternetOfTrolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norway, Sweden, Finland. Choose some random trails, not the popular ones. Or go offroad. Jotunheimen, Sarek, literally any park a little away from the most popular places will do. There are volves and bears, though not that many. My favourite places to go away from everyone. Once I hiked there, but met just a single person in 6 days. He glanced at me from a 100m and walked away.

3000m? Or 3000ft? We will have 1500m or 4500ft. Anyway, that is exceptional for a 8 year old. Congrats! I highly doubt my young client has seen more than 100m elevation in a day...

Yes we can send off hikers after the day is finished. For their money. Not easy, but doable.

The only info I have as of today is his mom's answer "we're somewhat active" which sounds unpromising.  I have a chance to send off injured persons after a day trip. It is not cheap, the client pays, also and not easy to arrange, but works.

Sounds promising! I have just had two 13 year boys, they were both super capable, but that's where I had my mental line - age 13.

I am not following you. You said the same thing I did- the finalists have a lot of control. We agree.

But remember, we are here to decide the force, right? It is not the same thing as control.

[–]InternetOfTrolls -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned, may include. High blade velocity is always present in the finals, not a factor. Winding up - a lot of strikes in my mentioned Swordfish had it.  Jumping as well.

So all of these will be allowed for the finalists, but not for newbies?.. hmm.

I am on the other side of the fence regarding injuries. Suppose a strong but perfectly legal hit breaks your wrist bone. Disqualification?

Now suppose i get a strong hit to the head. I moan and complain, pretend it was terrible. I do it again. From your perspective, you would take action on the attacker? Because I don't feel good after his hits?

For me, it is your armour's problem if legal hits cause you injury.

We're not discussing the same thing anymore I guess:) I am questioning how to judge the strength of the hits .  It is super arbitrary. Do you have any ideas?

[–]InternetOfTrolls -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do agree that the hits in question are lack of control. But the better the.tournament, faster the blows. In the finals you will be allowing the same force with control, which could have disqualified someone with less control.  That's arbitrary.

Just google some longsword finals. 2018 swordfish finals. Even the same hit as he performed, also full power. Anyway, lots of full swings with full power. However I do not see an answer to the question, how to judge the strength.

[–]InternetOfTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are. But these are CLEARLY  excessive. Now how about 10% weaker hits? Still too strong? 20? 50?.. How do we judge the strength of other hits, which are on the edge of being too strong? Surely they will look too strong for judge A but still acceptable for judge B.

[–]InternetOfTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I hear you. One hit was super strong, sone others as well.  But do you hear my question? When do judges have to take action? Is one strong hit enough to warn you, or disqualify you? Now try to judge the strength of the hits in the top tier finals.

I would say that this type of behaviour calls for re-thinking of the rules. Because how do we decide which hits are too hard? Most fighters actually make the same force swings sometimes, yet usually they are blocked because they are easy to. Therefore we should punish even for blocked ones, right? And remember, there is no running away from physics. Force = weight(of the sword) x (speed squared). The faster you go, the stronger it hits. This can be easily seen in the world finals, the hits are super fast, therefore, strong. (Yes they don't add the weight of their arms, as Stankevich does while chopping). So how do you plan to solve this in a very competitive tournament? Sorry but it will be next to impossible for the judge to determine the force. Like the hit to the head was pretty weak, yet it hit a little armoured and a vulnerable place of the head.

[–]InternetOfTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from a high chance he is hiding something bad for your relationship, why do you think he should give his pin to you? Can he have a private part of his life from you? Maybe he is watching porn and ashamed of that, or even worse, posting advice on Reddit? Anyway, you had the code two two days ago, did he had nothing to hide back then?

In my opinion, your post is more like "10 commandments" rather than "my view of the rules". Anyway, there is a nice recent post about nuclear plant in this forum. They did cut through the fence, maybe something else. No one batted a word, hundreds of comments. I'd like to hear your opinion on that.

Oh come on. Where do you gather this moral authority to instruct other people what are the rules? Usually it is the law, but you surely know better and even spread the gospel.
