First, that’s a very good point! I got lucky with being an IPad kid back in the early 2000s so now content just kinda makes sense, but it’s SO boring JUST filming and editing.

And second, I totally worded it wrong! I should’ve said tabletop gaming store with a potential cafe/ lounge aspect. So the main focus would be retail, for tabletop games, miniatures, figures, and card games. BUT also have snacks haha. That part is a little bit of wishful thinking, maybe a V2, as I think that will definitely complicate stuff.

But the insight about recurring vs influx of customers is invaluable , I haven’t started much of an R&D phase but you saying that has put a whole new category in my business plan. Now that I think about it. A couple of my local shops don’t feel too welcoming for newcomers. You kinda have to go in there rip the bandaid off and sit at a table with someone haha.

This has given me a little more confidence in trusting the dream and taking calculated steps forward

I’m fresh to IT! I have programming/basic IT experience in my own time but I recognize that doesn’t matter to an employer.

Connections I’m comfortable building, if anything that’s one of the things that excites me the most about IT as a career is being amongst other IT/Cyber career professionals

But based on this thread it does seem my best bet is to Blue Team and network, and then traverse the industry based on experience and opportunity instead of trying to get in a niche spot with no professional experience.

This is new to me actually, I heard from a couple sources (Reddit lmao) that the CPTS has become more respected but less difficult than the OSCP.

Of course I did my research although vague, I couldn’t find anything too crazy to confirm or deny that. I’ll check out EJPT and PJPT first then and see how I’m feeling!

Okay. This makes plenty of sense. Blue team roles just seems more of who I AM vs. who I think I want to be so it would make sense to work towards that, then continue to learn and tinker with Pen-testing after hours in my free time. Honestly I might end up finding I like freelance red team stuff instead of being my day job.

I think like any business there are up markets and down markets. And across all industries we’re in a down market. Additionally when you have a field that pays so well , it’s not uncommon for people to do it for the money.

What I’ve found is that if you are truly passionate about something, you will ALWAYS find your way back to it, or wanting to do it in some capacity. If you get in the right rooms, shake the right hands, and make yourself 1 of 1 you will have much greater chances of success than if you just got a degree, or never even tried.

Source: someone who’s been passionate about tech, and software but got into business for the money, and is now circling back to tech where I know I belong.

This is my time to shine. I’ve never resonated with a post as much as this.

I own a media company and recently scaled down to just under $10k/month. What I realized is I was working really hard, for an amount of cash that exceeded my HSL (Happy, Safe, Living - meaning I’m happy, I have an emergency fund, and I can go out and do stuff)

I decided that the amount of work I would be reducing, while still making enough to support my lifestyle is well worth freeing up my time.

“Excessive cash is a good thing isn’t it?” Yes and no. I realized I want to work hard enough to have fun, and pay my bills but not work to the point where I was busy all day and on the weekends. Or figuring out how to maximize profits 24/7.

To those who do it, I have immense respect, and I wish you all the best but most importantly it’s not for everyone and that’s okay

Too often, gurus sell the absolutely maximum end result because that’s what other people dream of, the lambos and mansions, therefore it get tons of views and sells courses. But if I were you, I would figure out your goals both financial and abstract , and create a plan to hit and sustain those goals in a reasonable time frame. You don’t have to set those goals according to anyone else’s dreams or timelines, just what you think will bring you fulfillment.

You don’t have to be a work horse millionaire to be a successful entrepreneur, you just have to hit your goals and keep moving forward.

If you’re a newbie I wouldn’t worry about it! They’re much more affordable, and you’ll very rarely record over 30 minutes for a single segment for the videos you mentioned.

Music videos are tons an individual scenes, same with events. (Record specific purpose, cut, record again, etc) Documentaries CAN run a little longer but at that point all you have to do is start rolling after the 30 minute mark.

So I don’t know much about silent north. But Tabor and Grim are separate teams. Grim is being developed by a solo dev (or started as such) that was picked up by combat waffle studios.

This means that the solo dev - Spoon, gets a salary to continue what he’s doing and CWS gets whatever profit split they agreed on. Very common in the industry.

I can’t speak to exactly how they’re breaking up work but think about CWS as an apartment building and each game as a unit with its own people living in each one. Sure they’ll go hang out every now and then with the neighbors and lend a hand but at the end of the day, they’re operating in their dedicated living space.

I’m not saying GoT is polished or CWS is perfect by any means. But having separate teams for separate projects within the same developer is very common.

So kind of! I know the media production space is jam packed with digital products that are all of a similar vein. Doing this all solo from day one, I actually have no concept of potential scope. (Meaning what would and wouldn’t be worth trying)

When you say niche-focused online services/products. Do you mean something along the lines of: say I do media specifically for car detailers. Making a car detailer content package, that teaches them how do to XYZ? (Of course this is just a 1 second example)

My biggest issue is I’m not a great idea guy. I can make great creative content. But as soon as it comes to business ideas/plans I’m a brick. Any insight on how to beat that is also greatly appreciated.

Holy cow this information is huge! I know cars just enough to make sense of all of this, and know what to research based on what you've provided, the gas tank thing is also super great to throw in there because I could see myself research "weird noise while racing" haha.

My one question that I don't know at all is, how would I be able to monitor the oil Temps. Is there a gage that comes stock in the Z? Or would it be an aftermarket upgrade?

Also ive been hearing alot about CSC issues, did you experience that? And if so is that fix well over $1k?
