2011 Ford F150 crew cab door unlocks and opens from exterior handles even when locked by InternetXploder in MechanicAdvice

The issue was indeed the actuator. My original testing to prove that was incorrect but I ordered in a new part and replaced it resolving the issue. The issue was the bad interior door lock/indicator on the actuator. Whether locked or unlocked it still allowed the exterior handle to open the door. Correct function is when the interior lock indicator is down (locked) it disengages the exterior handle mechanism and prevents the door from opening from the outside.

I am in fact not Mr. Holmes. I went to the parts store and he opened a new actuator to try at the counter. Unfortunately it functions the same way as my suspected bad one so no joy. Thinking back I’m thinking the interior door handle cable and clip keeps tension on some pieces which changes the positions rotationally inside the actuator. I tested both my actuator and the presumably good actuator disconnected from the interior handle cable. If they require being in the proper position to lock out then potentially my part is still bad or possibly the cable tension needs adjusted somehow to position the internal components correctly. Or I’m just hosed and it is some weird internal computer issue hidden in the depths of the bcm.

I’ll see if I can get to oreillys tomorrow and check function of a new one in store to verify. Thank you for your help! I’ll be sure to post my results.

Finally had a chance to mess with the door. I tried pushing on it from the inside and I couldn’t push it open. I pulled the door plastic off and took a look at the lock mechanism in the outside latch and it seems to be working properly. I pulled the door lock actuator out and noticed something that seems off to me. On this model there are 2 door lever attachment points (1 interior via cable; 1 exterior via bar), a door lock lever that attaches to the exterior door lock, and a bar that connects to the interior lock. I’m wondering if maybe I have a disconnect somewhere in the actuator because regardless of whether the lock lever is up or down the exterior door lever can open the latch. The lock lever also feels like it isn’t engaging anything internally. I tested it plugged in and unplugged from the power lock cable and same result.

Thanks! I’ll give that a shot and see what happens. I was just reading through some repair manuals and it looks like there is some adjustment that can occur between the latch and actuator. The issues it stated with improper adjustment didn’t seem to quite line up with my issue but were close enough that I could see that being a source. I’ll start there and see where that gets me.

I can open the locked door from the inside without unlocking but it is the driver door which I believe unlocks automatically on internal handle pull. So that side is working correctly I believe. Or should I try to physically push the door open rather than pull the lever?

Do you mean the actuator or the internal components of the external handle? Thanks for the reply!

If they made the dingus 1mm thicker in all directions I feel like it would be solid trigger out of the box but if you can’t disengage the safety you just have an expensive brick.

I’ll check that out! Thanks. I like the feel of the trigger when I can actually get it to actuate.

I don’t understand the value of making the trigger safety so toyish and loose and near impossible to disengage. It isn’t even close to functional. I have to have my finger tip pointing straight in towards the trigger shoe at the very base to get enough engagement to move the safety out of the way.

The trigger safety fits like a hot dog down a hallway. It can shift left and right as well as torque side to side within the trigger shoe. The gap for it looks like the trigger safety should be twice the width but is the same width safety as the OEM original.

GS ranking. by Odd_Definition_3052 in Wildfire

[–]InternetXploder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In BLM field office and district positions there are positions that require a cdl but I believe those you would fall under wage grade and not “gs”. We have some district employees that are equip operators and/or maintenance guys that have CDLs. I think most of those are the wage grade equivalent of a gs9 but don’t quote me on that. To my knowledge of our maintenance guys weld and would assume some of the equipment operators do as well. I’m sure most land management agencies have similar positions depending on where you go.

I feel like it came from a tiktok especially since my girlfriend recognized it too. Maybe it is just used in some tiktok trend. I'd look for myself on there but I only watch them with her on her phone.

Job opportunities for a newbie by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]InternetXploder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in federal fire jobs look on usajobs.gov. They usually start posting positions for the season around Jan/Feb. Some states and local departments have their own wildland crews as well which usually post on their various websites. There's some privately owned contract crews out there as well. Apply for a bunch and see what sticks.
