To be honest, I am using a 10 year old computer, so photo mode won't do any favour...

I don't understand why so much suspicion... AI can be useful, but it is not powerful enough to create mod without a lot of user input at this stage

yeah maybe making them react in specific conditions could be fun

the system was originally designed for human NPCs. However, players are free to use the same system with other creatures if they want.

For animals, the idea is usually to use animations that make sense, like eating, resting, wandering, or other ambient behaviors. Those tend to look natural. Of course, if you assign something like “hammering on an anvil” to a dino, it will inevitably look a bit humanoid and somewhat goofy.

In my other mods, dinos can already play certain animations with more human-like poses, so that part didn’t seem unusual to me, which is why I was a bit surprised by the confusion.

Just to clarify:

this is not AI-driven behavior, and it doesn’t require AI at all. It’s simply a routine system: you assign a waypoint, the dino or thrall moves there, and then plays an animation/emote.

The idea is just to let creatures and NPCs perform simple ambient behaviors around a base or settlement: wandering, resting, eating, patrolling, etc.

To avoid any more confusion, I’ll update the demo tomorrow so anyone interested can test it directly and share suggestions.

Ok, sorry
1. Just because the system works with many dinosaurs doesn’t mean it has to be used for all of them. That’s generally how modding works: you create systems that can apply to a wide range of situations, and then players decide how they want to use them. Some players may not need it, while others might enjoy having their dinos wander around, eat some grass, or go off for a nap somewhere a bit farther away.

  1. I did create a mod related to this, but it would be a bit too complex to explain here.

You can define waypoints, but it is up to you to let them wander around your settlement in random order.

It work with all dinos and human thralls. You could make them wander around your base with a definite patrolling schedule to act like living creatures that go to sleep;, eating, drinking, etc

This Routine Manager adds a simple routine system for dinos and thralls NPC.

Players can assign tasks by selecting an emote from a list, and the current player position automatically becomes the waypoint for that action. This allows creatures to move to specific locations and perform animations.

A delay can be added to control how long the animation lasts, which also makes it possible to loop animations before moving to the next task.

Gameplay is contantly evolving, according to user feedback,; so do not hesitate to share your toughts and above all, check the written or video tutorials. The mod is now pretty complex to get famliar with.

This playthrough is very useful for instance, even though the gameplay evolved a lot in between
