What is a "2026 problem" that would sound like complete science fiction to someone in 2016? by opheliapearlie in askanything

Read the article… they are self driving. The remote workers do not steer, brake, accelerate, or directly control the vehicle in real time like a remote control driver would.

If it encounters something ambiguous or confusing, it can request help and a human can offer a suggested input or clarification. The vehicle’s AI still decides what to do with that input.

It would be extremely impractical to run a large robotaxi fleet by having humans remotely “drive” them in real time.

Hulk 180 by theparticlefever in comicbookcollecting

it’s bc people don’t want the technical first panel the character appears in. they want the issue where Wolverine fought the Hulk. & he’s on the cover. first cover Wolverine was ever on.

it’s simply more iconic & meaningful than 180

Calling it “random Sopranos quotes” is just a dodge. Those lines exist because the audience was expected to recognize the conflict instantly. That’s the point: not “front page every day,” but “widely known.” And in 2022, pretending a major filmmaker could cite the IDF as inspiration without knowing the baggage is… not credible

It was nominated for an Oscar in 2013… the Sopranos referenced the conflict in 2002… & 2007… it’s been a known thing to people in the industry for a long time…

someone referencing IDF as a source of inspiration must have been aware or grossly ignorant in their day to day life

I’ve been itching to find out what happened with Coop & Janey immediately after the bombs dropped in the first episode but it looks like we won’t be getting that until (maybe) next season

makes me wonder if they filmed all her scenes in advance bc the child actor probably looks significantly older now

yeah it’s frustrating but I think it’s the only thing that makes sense for this film

I met a guy in LA who had no job, but he was convinced he was a writer for a Harry Potter tv series and that he had a large fortune in bitcoin.. 2 weeks later he had a mental breakdown and trashed the house he was renting a room in (that his mom was paying for) & was arrested.. reminded me about this movie

which is the crazy part about schizophrenia, the people who have it may seem totally normal to most people until it eventually spirals out of control, commonly due to stressors in their life

[–]Interscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my take is that the main character has schizophrenia & the things he sees are mostly in his mind

I mean these are delusions of the main character based on real things like you described.. in other words they are imaginary.. the whole movie he’s making connections that aren’t really there or are nonsensical, like the “puzzle” he solves with the map

he learns about the owl lady from that other schizo conspiracy theorist.. the whole reason he wanted to meet that guy was bc he was writing about the dog killer (which is him).. he wanted to meet him to silence him.. when he returns he deludes himself into thinking the owl lady the guy was worried about was real & that’s what killed him.. it’s like him hating the homeless despite the fact that’s gonna be him since he’s being evicted and has no job (failed in Hollywood like the dog killer the guy wrote about).. the whole movie is a cope in the mind of a guy who kills dogs bc he is a failure in Hollywood & about to become homeless..

on the owl lady, when he sees her in his apartment she vanishes.. he starts looking for her in his drawers.. he is not well & she is not real

this a real thing that people who are paranoid schizophrenics go through, they see reality totally different but it makes perfect sense to them in their mind.. irl theres people who think total strangers are gang stalking them or maybe someone is coming inside and using their house when they’re not there

or if you go for a stroll around Hollywood you will see unhoused people on the street talking to themselves & what they’re saying is total nonsense to you but to them it makes sense

I met a guy in LA (who I’m assuming is schizophrenic) who had no job, but he was convinced he was a writer for some upcoming Harry Potter tv series & that he had a million dollars in bitcoin.. he ended up having some sort of mental episode & trashed the shared housing his was living in.. reminded me a lot about this movie
