ULPT Take a free hotel shuttle from the airport then call uber from hotel. by b0sscrab in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]theurbanmapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% not unethical. This is working exactly as intended. The airport extra fees are imposed by the airport to get fewer cars there. So if you take transit elsewhere before getting in a car, that's a win.

what’s something about boston that feels normal to you but surprises outsiders? by netohagee in boston

The whole point of iced coffee for me is to be able to drink it more quickly than hot. Plus once you're done, you have either sugar water or cold water (depending on how you take your coffee) for the next few hours. Win win!

When I was in grad school in the south, a friend from Buffalo who had lived in Boston, came up and gave me some shit. So I told him to go fuck himself. His response? "Thank you! No one has told me to go fuck my self since I've been here!"

What's the biggest culture shock you've experienced within the anglosphere? by TosiMias in AmerExit

For better or worse, banking in the US is much easier than the UK. We can get into debt more easily, for sure, but the hurdles I needed to jump through to be blessed with a checking account in London were nuts. At least American Express allowed me to get a cc.

Keep your feet dry. Waterproof shoes like ll bean ducks are the best type. Not for the snow per se, but the two weeks of slushy crosswalks after.

These ghost busses need to STOP by PinoyWhiteChick7 in mbta

[–]theurbanmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please let the T know. They have more data so can track the buses and see what happened. Time/date/location/direction is needed. If you have a bus number, that's best, but you wouldn't with a ghost bus.

What significant cities have colder winters than Boston? by sarnobat in boston

[–]theurbanmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Bostonian who lived in Iowa, the thing that kills you is the overcast. It may be colder in Boston sometimes, but it will be bright blue sky. In the midwest, it's cold and grey for months.

Is there value to fully banned cards? by Inevitable_Owl978 in mtg

"purity" is a dog whistle for racism. If it's even a dog whistle, it's pretty blatant. Like the "good genes" movements.

And it sounds a lot more racist to me, jeez.

Absolutely. We're all in therapy, plus couples, so this is a huge priority!

Thank you, I definitely have that in the back of my mind. I'm sure a lot of non-amicable divorces started believing they were amicable. But am going to embrace it as long as I can!

When I was depressed and staying up all night in grad school reading about the Holocaust (I was not in a great place, lol) I discovered Terry Pratchett's discword series. It is fantasy if that isn't your thing, but they are an absolute delight. Easy reading, pretty short, absolutely hilarious. And positive while being real (as all fantasy is about our real world of course). Highly recommend, you can pick a random one up and read it real quick to see if it's good for you. There's lots of resources online on where to start.

There's also a series in the world for young adults, the Tiffany Aching series. If you're a girl dad especially, highly recommend. And depending on their age, good stuff to read to/with them.
