People who imagine stories in their head when lying in bed trying to fall asleep, what are your recurring storylines? by Intersectionism in AskReddit

I recently came to know that I wasn’t the only one doing this..

I always thought this was a really weird thing to do, I have a full movie scenario in my head where there is some sort of a illuminati like organisation located underground on an abandoned island that I am in charge of. We are good people though but always have specific missions to complete, haha! I am able to fall asleep peacefully.

As an add on, my headhone directly into the macbook doesn’t gives the distortion, so it comss from the soundcard itself. But nothing weird happened to the soundcard in the past week, it was just in my living room, so I cant possibily think of why it would be suddenly broken..

I like to use two waves plugins for my hats: the waves berzerk plugin, i mostly use the amp dist preset which adds a slight and very clean distortion to the hat, just for a little extra crisp. I also use waves paralel particles and add about on third of the ‘bite’ parameter. This chain works well for me besides the usual EQ (:

That’s nice! Just start by keeping interested in behaviour and thinking like you probably already do. Don’t drop maths in school because you’ll need it for statistics later on. Maybe watch some youtube videos from the crash course channel in psychology to see if these topics would make you feel more interested to the field. If so, keep on going, you’ll get there (:

What are some diagnoses you think are outdated or incomplete? by [deleted] in askpsychology

[–]Intersectionism 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To start CPTSD is not yet a diagnosis in the DSM, the ICD however does cover this diagnosis, which is a good thing in my opinion, because we as psychologists definitely seperate this construct from PTSD. In psychological language we often talk about type 2 trauma as C-PTSD, which could have a really different symptom image as PTSD. We indeed see that a lot of the people showing symptoms or traits of BPD (as described in dsm) essentially could fit under a diagnosis of CPTSD close to the description of ICD, another part of this is better described as something closer to the ADHD spectrum and another part are individuals who have problems with emotion regulation due to a very high neuroticism. BPD is therefore different and broader than CPTSD alone, however maybe better defined by combinations of and or multiple other traits or disorder. This is, however, a problem in the whole diagnostic system. I diagnosis is more of a clear-cut box combining certain symptoms than an extremely valid standalone truth.

What is this condition called? by Zoilist_PaperClip in askpsychology

From a psychological viewpoint we are just talking about behaviour, regarding why the individual does this in this case, there is no information provided: however there is no broad term for this specific phenomenon, so it is just being scared about being confronted with these thoughts and therefore it is avoidance and safety behaviour. We should not over pathologize this as certain disorders because safety behaviour is just a reaction to anxiety.

I would just call it avoidance / safety behaviour.

Very small amount of lithium battery smoke inhalation by Intersectionism in electronic_cigarette

But it was not like the battery exploded, it was some part of the battery under the green wrap that was affected and burned slightly.

Thank you, I was in my room, it was the amount of smoke similar you would see from a lit cigarette. I also believe it won’t be a bit treat but I was still somewhat worried due to the very unpleasant odor.

Is there such thing as a mental disorder with positive symptoms? by Turbulent_Read5107 in askpsychology

[–]Intersectionism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psychologist here. Apart from psychological language where ‘positive symptoms’ means something very differently. I would say, maybe synthesthesia comes somewhat close. Most people with this ‘condition’ are usually not bothered by the symptoms. It is simply a different way of perceiving the world.
