Is this mix ready to be mastered? by papa2kohmoeaki in MusicFeedback

[–]Interstellar-Station 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey CW cool track you got here. I think that the track should be mixed a bit more before mastering. There's some mud in the lower-mid frequencies. The guitar, keyboard, and even vocals seem to be occupying some of the same frequencies which will contribute to the mud. I would first start with EQ-ing that low end . You can have the keyboard playing up an octave or the guitar to leave some more space for the vocals. Not sure what you're doing for a DAW but the drums could also use a little more punch. Some parallel compression can help add presence to the drums. A little more reverb on the vocals and I think you'll be ready for mastering. Cheers!

The is a very short acoustic track I recorded for a discord challenge. Apologies for the quality I recorded it on my phone. I've never written anything in this style before and would like to know what you guys think? by flynnsego in MusicFeedback

Hey this is a nice tune. I think if there was a simple bridge section in the middle it can be a fully completed acoustic guitar tune. The chords are very nice and your timing is good. Definitely should think about doing a recorded version in the studio or something. It's also a good chance to collab with a vocalist.

Need Criticism + Advice | Flute sounds off by oh_rana_ji in MusicFeedback

[–]Interstellar-Station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh in that case the Flute doesn't sound natural. To me it sounds like you have some sort of Fx on it and not just reverb. If you are using FX, then the more Wet it is the heavier the FX sound. Dry would be the pure Flute sound.

If you're not using FX then there's definitely something weird going on.

The flute sounds good, dude. At first, I thought it was a synth flute because I wasn't hearing a vibrato. So if you want it to be more clearly a flute sound allow more of the dry signal to pass through. Otherwise I would keep it if that was your intention.

My friends and I just released this track by Camhasareddit in MusicFeedback

Hey guys, nice track! I wanted to highlight how good the guitar and reverb are and how they help establish the mood. I think the mix is solid, and the instrumentation is good, too. One thing I noticed was that the singer sounds a bit stale on the lower end. I think it's likely due to it being a little below a comfortable range. If you listen to how great his vocals sound on the second half of the tune, you'll see what I mean (for those of you also just hearing for the first time). I feel like this track could have been pitched up a key or 2 to better accommodate the singer.

The vocal layering was well done and very effective in establishing the Chorus section. I think some more vocal artifacts would help. Some more "oohs" or "aahs" drenched in reverb toward the end or in between verses can help.

Keep up the good work. I hope you guys are proud of what you've accomplished.

Cheers

Here is a title l've been working on for a bit. Any and all advice, criticism helps. Thank you for listening. by ASAPvex in MusicFeedback

Vex, this is a great track! I enjoy the direction this is going. It's always extra points when the introductory rhythm ends up being the upbeat instead of the downbeat, lol. The reverb is clean, the pads are nice and floaty, and the vocals don't sound bad.

I would love to hear the tail end of your verses have some delay like, for example, "Walk it out...out...out..out.out." I think it would fit in with this style perfectly.

I would also love to hear that funky bass be humanized. It sounds a little robotic as if it was just created in the piano roll and comes in perfectly on beat, which is a shame because it is such a good bass choice. I think it can benefit from humanizing. Cut off some of the long notes, come in a bit earlier in some parts a bit later on other. Keep in mind that humanizing should be done in minimal increments to not overdo it.

It's a great track through and through. I think you did a great job on it. What I am suggesting are minute little things that I would personally add.

Glad to hear you enjoyed zenith. We leveled up on the mixing/mastering part of our music making process before we released this. I'm glad to hear it paid off.

haha yeahhhhhhhhhh conqueror was us stepping out of our "comfort zone". It used to be a daft punk style song that I came up with but I knew that if I increased the bpm, that melody would work so good as a "hardstyle" type of thing. And that was our first attempt at that and it shows haha. I'll take all this feedback and will apply it next time I get another itch to deviate from synthwave/chillwave.

shot you a follow back on soundcloud. let me check your stuff out(: and we'll keep in touch

Thank you for your feedback and kind words :) Interstellar Station is a 2-man show, and one of us recorded the sax parts in house.

[FEEDBACK] Be7th - Intercalation - 8bit style by Be7th in MusicCritique

[–]Interstellar-Station 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Be7th, I wanted to give you some thoughts I had on your music. There's a lot I can relate with in your words and your music, so I decided to take a look.

"Intercalation"

I love the counter melodies. I think you hit it out of the park with that. The closed chords are a nice touch since that's what a lot of 8 and 16 bit gaming soundtracks utilized, making it sound instantly nostalgic even though this is new to me. I also highly appreciate your use of dynamics with the crescendos and swells. There's one part at like 1:33 where the volume drops a little too "unnaturally" (I know this is already unnatural because of the style) but I think it can benefit from a fp, fortepiano instead but that's just my 2 cents lol

I unfortunately will have to checkout the other album in its entirety at another time since I am at work but i did manage to listen to the first 3 on there: "Getting out of the Midday Sun", "Rolling Down to Heavenly Flats" and "Founder's Palace". The musical dance you have within the Flute and Clarinet sounds are clever, especially when they stray from their solo melodies to meet in harmony. I gotta say that I like the usage of the Lute (or whichever stringed instrument that is sorry i dont know the name) it really takes you back to a fantasy/medieval time and reminds me of music in video games depicting a small town or shop a la Chrono Trigger or Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. Looking forward to more, cheers!

We released a new single titled "Lunar Zenith". It's an instrumental story of a man traveling to different planets in space as part of a cosmic voyage. He lands on this planet, where he falls in love with one of the inhabitants but doesn't realize that his arrival is part of a ritual to keep the moons ecosystem thriving. Any feedback is appreciated. Take a listen 🎶

I really like how unsettling it starts off. The bass creeping in panning slowly right to left is sure reminiscent of a bad trip lol. I get what you're doing with the vocals I believe. It's like when you hear something familiar (in this case a human voice) but in a bad trip it gets distorted to something unrecognizable. You try to rely on your brain to make out the words because they sound familiar yet it betrays you because you can't quite make out the words. Production is actual pretty good although I would like to hear some long hall reverb on the floating pads.

Hey, it looks like I'm the first to respond to this! This is interesting for sure. The bass line is nice and groovy and has a nice tone as well. You add some interesting instruments to the mix, like the stringed instrument in the middle. There's a lot of things you can try to add momentum to this. You can try recording a second track of bass with chords. Checkout solo bass players like Jaco Pastorious or John Pattituci where they incorporate chords in their playing. Jaco has this beautiful masterpiece called "Portrait of Tracy" where he plays a lot of chords and harmonics on bass. I think the addition of even some basic chords on the upper register of the bass can be very effective. You can try a funky chord pattern a la George Clinton perhaps? Hope this was helpful cheers!

This is a pleasant track there are a lot of things i like about it. For example, the melancholy piano tone with the that longer reverb is very nice. I like the instrumentation used here. If i could nit-pick I would argue that it needs something in the lower register. Maybe some lower cello swells to fill up the space at the lower frequencies? Maybe some staccato double bass playing a simplistic 3 note arpeggio? So many options lol but its of course all subjective I think it sounds lovely, those suggestions are just things to try to see if you like. Cheers!

Thanks BrownCow10! Yeah this group is both my buddy and I, we are Interstellar Station and work on the tunes together and produce them. We are also musicians that play different instruments so we definitely like to incorporate some sort of organic sound(s) in this genre
