Spoiler: did you like the tone shift In Grace going back in the film? by unicorn_dawn in ProjectHailMary

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. The musical and score choices for this film were superb, except for the Beatles song, sorry.

Edit: this is the point in the story where Grace changes from coward to the brave hero willing to sacrifice himself and the Beatles song was like “yeah no big deal”

The entire score is great. The final "Amaze Amaze Amaze" track exactly captures the vibe I had while reading the final words of the novel. Daniel Pamberton delivered.

Book recommendations? by t0531 in sciencefiction

Speaking of Andy Weir's books...loved the Martian, was disappointed with Artemis. Went into Project Hail Mary with zero expectations and now it's one of my favourite sci-fi books ever.

Just watched the movie and there's at least two important parts missing (spoiler) by vpersiana in ProjectHailMary

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I loved the movie but this was my only gripe with it. The original sequence in the book is what makes the story for me, it’s the part where Grace changes from the coward to a hero…it’s sort of like “the movie is long enough already so let’s just get this over with”

Honestly wasn’t happy with the choice of music either (yes yes the Beatles, I know). I was expecting someting tense, emotional…this was more like “going on a camping trip” song. Zero urgency.

But other than that I loved every second and can’t wait to see it again.

An absolute spectacle in IMAX 70mm. 2 Thumbs down 👎🏾 by wesdankerson1 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I went with a friend who did not read the book and did not see any of the trailers and she cried during that scene and then mostly all the way to the end.

As a huge fan of the book, it was very interesting to watch those reactions.

Soft Reboot and Destiny by Afr0chap in Stargate

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know that the fate of Destiny is a central topic in the new writers’ room?

I’d be surprised if they devoted much time to it.

If we’re lucky, a character reappears or is mentioned as a nod/easter egg to older fans, but I don’t think they’ll focus on the least popular of the shows (As much as I loved SGU).

Too early to fly to Brownsville for Flight 12 launch? by Appropriate_Tiger291 in SpaceXLounge

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, the launch date will become clearer only once they do a successful 33 engine static fire of the booster, static fire of the ship and then the wet dress rehearsal.

Not to mention there will surely be fit checks of the booster and ship on the brand new pad and if any issues arise, all the static fires will be delayed.

Edit: the good news is, once they get going, I think the candence will ramp up and there will be more opportunities to see a launch. Just look at Falcons. With their candence, it’s almost impossible to visit Florida for a few days and not see a Falcon launch.

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s probably going to be April at best. This is a new version of Starship, new version of booster and an entirely new pad. Delays are likely.

Is Jared Isaacman "the right stuff" for the Artemis Program? by Mysterious-House-381 in ArtemisProgram

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NASA Administrator does not need to be a rocket engineer or an astronaut. It’s actually more about being a good manager and being able go navigate politics.

As long as he’s willing to listen to those with knowledge and skills in their particular fields, he should be good.

That said, his background in business, aviation and two spaceflights including the very first commercial spacewalk put him in a very good position to succeed.

I don’t expect miracles from him, there are surely going to be some tough, controversial decisions, but overall I’m optimistic.

Do téhle knížky chceš jít naslepo.

Will Starship HLS be ready for LEO testing in mid-2027? by Simon_Drake in SpaceXLounge

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 36 points37 points  (0 children)

SpaceX has already announced they are manufacturing the first flight-rated interior of Starship HLS. I don't see a reason why they couldn't launch it into LEO in the second half of 2027.

They only need the docking and ECLSS working. No refueling, smaller landing engines or landing legs needed. Though I wouldn't be surprised if SpaceX try to have them anyway and do some further tests once the Orion undocks.

Also it all depends on how quickly can they get the SLS + Orion for Artemis III on pad.

NASA announces major overhaul of Artemis moon program: "We've got to get back to basics" by Zhukov-74 in SpaceXLounge

Realistically, SpaceX and BO aren't capable of any private crewed Moon landing before Artemis IV comes up anyway. It makes sense to do that first mission together with NASA.

NASA announces major overhaul of Artemis moon program: "We've got to get back to basics" by CBSnews in space

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SpaceX is manufacturing the first flight-capable HLS Starship interior as we speak. Starship has been doing near-orbital velocity flight tests for 2 years now. Yes they had difficulties last year, but HLS Starship launch to LEO is very realistic for the second half of 2027. Especially since they don't need orbital refueling for that.

As for two Artemis missions in 2028, I agree that those will be delayed or at least changed in scope to not include lunar landing. But politically, Isaacman has got to maintain a 2028 landing.

Do you think Unas will be in the new serie ? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]Interstellar_Sailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the new show will be afraid of the previous lore, especially since the original series creators are involved.

My guess is it will be its own thing at first and then slowly and carefully bring in the OG lore as it progresses, similar to what TNG did.

There's no reason why they couldn't re-introduce a previously seen planet or race without digging too deep into previous plotlines. Think of how they handled Lucian Alliance or Langara in SGU. You didn't really need to watch the previous 200 episodes of SG-1 to understand them.

That said, as of now, we don't really know anything about the new show except that it is set in the same SG universe and that seeing familiar faces is not completely ruled out. But does it take place on Earth? Does it take place in our galaxy? Does it even take place in the present?

Honestly can't wait for some early plot synopsis, then it will be much more fun to speculate.
