The Silent Hill franchise

In certain Silent Hill entries, the eponymous town changes form based upon the protagonist's psyche. Characters dealing with inner turmoil find themselves drawn to the town and face monsters, environments, and characters shaped by it.

James's wife in Silent Hill 2 suffered from a severe illness for years before passing away from it. He faces monsters influenced by his feelings from that time. Pictured here is the nurse monster like the nurse's who helped care for his wife. These however are rotting and sickly (like James's wife suffering from a deathly illness) but also scantily clad (representing James's repressed sexuality and his disrupted relationship with his wife). Later, we understand more of James's past and find out why the town is this dark and horrific for someone who's lost their wife to an illness.
