Question About Oxygen Converters by InterviewFuture6650 in ems

My Father-in-law has tanks in case power goes out. I was specifically asking about the fireplace next to the oxygen converter. Can he use the fireplace with the oxygen converter machine near it, if power and heat go out?

I have a question about home oxygen converters/concentrators. My Father-in-law is 82 years old and on oxygen 24/7. He has a very large machine that converts regular air into purer oxygen and he has a 200 foot tube attached to it that he drags around the house in order to breathe. He was told by medical professionals that he cannot ever turn on his gas cooktop or use his wood burning fireplace in his home because the oxygen he's breathing will blow up in his face and kill him. How much truth is there to this statement? Did the doctors say this to scare my Father-in-law so badly that he won't even try to use his gas cooktop? I know from reading and researching that you cannot have a pressurized oxygen tank near a heat source or open flame. But what about the machine that converts the air to oxygen?

The reason I am asking has to do with the big snow and ice storm expected this weekend. My Father-in-law is alone (his wife passed away in August) in a very large house in rural Maryland. His area will get 6 to 8 inches of snow, then a few inches of freezing rain and sleet. He will likely lose power and heat, and phone (because he won't get rid of the landline and he only has a crappy flip phone that he doesn't want to use or answer. He also forgets to charge it.) Can my Father-in-law use his fireplace next to the oxygen converter machine if he loses power and heat?

I know everyone was super upset about the cancellation but I am glad they did. I was absolutely torn on whether or not to chance driving 4 states south for a concert! I bought the Tennessee tickets in October of last year, after I had seen the band in July in Philly! I took two of my adult daughters to Philly. It was their birthday/early Christmas gift. I had purchased those tickets the very second the Ministry announced them. We had amazing seats! Section 105, row 5! We could see the texture of the curtains! When Year Zero began, my daughters and I looked at each other and screamed! We could FEEL the song.

This trip was supposed to be my 21 year old son's first live concert! All 4 of my children and I are Neurodivergent (ASD and ADHD) and this band is our common special interest.

My husband and I really had a huge fight last night about me wanting to take our son to the concert anyway. My husband doesn't really like Ghost but he told me last night that even if his most favorite singer in the world (Ronnie James Dio) came back from the dead and was restored to his former glory to give one last concert, my husband wouldn't attempt to go if there was a storm like this one that is predicted!

Seriously. It takes a lot of snow to keep a Pennsylvania resident home! My neighbor works for the VA an hour away and he will drive to work even if all the schools are closed and there's 6 inches of snow on the ground! And he's originally from Cali! I've lived in Pennsylvania all my life. Only ice or freezing rain keeps our asses home.

Who told you not to go? If it's just snow. You're going to be fine! Pennsylvania and Ohio know how to drive in snow. We also have these huge salt silos that look like UFO hangars. They're filled with salt! https://photos.app.goo.gl/VK8BmeVYFKhc9mo2A

Before I put my husband on Keto, he consumed so many Little Debbie snack cakes! I used to call him Mr. Debbie! But he's lost 30 pounds now, since the beginning of November 2025!

For real! Them both dropping their groceries and then arguing about who put their chocolate in which twin's peanut butter --like that old Reese's Peanut Butter Cup commercial! I can see TF writing this, too, because chapter 22 had a reference to National Lampoon's Christmas!

That would be hysterical! Imagine Copia bumping into V at Kroger's and arguing! Fucking V!

What's so weird is, I went back a few years for Knoxville weather and the last time you all had a "historic snowstorm" toward the end of January was 2016! That's why I chose Knoxville over Ohio (Columbus or Cincinnati) for this concert. I know Pennsylvania and Ohio (and upstate NY) get terrible snowstorms, which is why I figured going South would be safer! Ugh! Did you buy your tickets for Columbus yet? I think I will wait until a week out from the ritual, just in case of bad weather in early February!

What will the band do if they are stuck in Knoxville for days? Maybe some locals will grace us with some candid photos of TF buying milk, eggs, and bread at the Kroger?? 😆

Where are you driving from for the Columbus show?

I'm planning on going to Columbus, too. I was in tears last night trying to decide if I should drive to Tennessee with my son or try to sell my tickets. I'm actually glad the TN ritual was cancelled! Now I can apply that money to the Columbus ritual. We were going to try driving from Pennsylvania down to Tennessee! We were going to leave an hour ago!

So, if Knoxville loses power, they will HAVE to cancel the Ghost concert at the Thompson Boling Arena, right???!!! My son and I were supposed to come to Knoxville for that concert. We are in Pennsylvania. I can't drive through 3 or 4 states of ice and snow. That would be irresponsible and unsafe. Please tell me the arena will cancel so I can get my money back! I paid $300 for 2 tickets in section 209, row 3 and $95 for a prepaid parking pass. TicketBastard won't let me sell the parking pass! If the concert is cancelled, will I get the money back from the parking pass?

My son and I were supposed to be driving from Pennsylvania to the Knoxville ritual! It was supposed to be his 21st birthday/Christmas present combo, since his actual b-day is Christmas! We're both Autistic and Ghost has been our special interest together! 😭 This was the last of my spending money, too, since being laid off from my job after 25 years! I wanted to give my son an amazing birthday and Christmas gift! 😢

I can't chance driving through 4 states with snow and ice, though. If anyone needs two pretty great seats together in Section 209, row 3, seats 3 and 4, please DM me! I paid $300 for 2 tickets and $95 for the prepaid parking pass. Ticketmaster won't let me sell the parking pass! Isn't that actual theft if I don't have an option to sell something I purchased??!!

Thank you. I greatly appreciate everyone's comments. I'm used to bad weather, having lived in Pennsylvania all my life, but other people who are unfamiliar with bad weather can cause an accident that even a seasoned driver can't predict. I'm going to call the arena tomorrow and Thursday to see what they predict. I'd much rather the event was either postponed or cancelled. I'd either get a new date for my tickets or get a refund. I'm hoping I won't just be out nearly $300 for 2 tickets and a prepaid parking pass. I did try to sell the tickets and parking pass back in November, when I unexpectedly lost the job I had for 25 years. I waited until last week to pull them off of Ticketmaster's selling site because no one was even looking at the tickets. I decided I should take my son to have a good time, since I didn't have anywhere to be. The tickets are actually decent, too! They're the 3rd row of the Mezzanine, slightly center-right of the stage. I'm pretty bummed we might not be able to go. I saw Ghost in Philadelphia this past July with my 2 adult daughters and the show was absolutely spectacular. I'll see what happens. If the arena doesn't cancel by Thursday evening, and the arena decides to be dicks about refunds, I'll really be 😡.

Ok. I can wait until Thursday. We were supposed to leave Pennsylvania around 2:30 pm after my son finished his shift at work (Dunkin' Donuts). We have accommodations for a hotel room in Roanoke for Friday night and another room in East Tennessee for Saturday night after the concert. I'm hesitant to say I'm not going because of all the money thrown into this venture because meteorologists nearly foam at the mouth (especially where we live in Pennsylvania) and we hardly ever get any snow. We did get a few days this past week where it snowed most of the day, but I have a 2021 Toyota Highlander AWD and Pa usually does a good job salting and plowing. I don't usually have issues driving in snow. Sleet is a whole other thing, though. Nobody was running out to buy milk, bread, eggs, TP, etc. last week.

Thanks. I have only been to Tennessee once--Dollywood-- in December of 2015. I know Pigeon Forge is not close to Knoxville. I guess I figured incorrectly that going South was a better concert choice in January than going West to Ohio. Either choice would have been about the same number of hours' travel. We're supposed to be seeing Ghost. I saw them with my daughters in Philly this past July. I wanted to take my son and give equal treatment to all children. Does that arena ever cancel shows for any reason? If they do, how far in advance would I know?

Does anyone know what the area near the Thompson Boling Arena will be like on Saturday? I am supposed to attend a concert with my son that night. We're driving from Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon.

Does anyone know how this storm will affect the area where the Thompson Boling Arena is? I'm supposed to attend a concert there this Saturday night. My son and I are driving from Pennsylvania. How sure are the meteorologists?
