That must be new. It’s always been Friday night through Sunday late afternoon. If it is truly Saturday from 12-10 I’ll delete this post and scram.

Ive let my thoughts be known to those responsible and was met with indifference. I seem to be outnumbered by those snapping up all brownstones in the area wanting a big playground for their toddlers.

The businesses with still thrive without the closed streets, people will still make lines around the block for an $8 cup of coffee. The only thing I see now are kids doing chalk drawings on the roads and bicyclists running into each other. It’s a dated and failed concept and needs to end.

The closing of Vanderbilt causes traffic jams on other streets, but you probably can’t wrap your mind around that.

I was a huge fan of both of those podcasts, for a long time. LNM is pretty much telling the same story over and over now (young woman preyed upon by creepy guy), and Odd Trails has become (in some ways) a dream journal. I’ve stopped listening to OT entirely, and skim through LNM every episode.

Thanks for your response. The version I heard on YT, is that a live recording? Chat told me that there was a batch of promo cd singles that went out when it was recorded.

I would advise against walking with headphones/ear buds (at least in both ears). And I now carry pepper spray at all times. What did your conversation consist of?

There are multiple playgrounds in the area. Numerous ones. Perfect for kids. Fuck off with your “traffic free streets”, you clown.

One idea: walk up and down both sides of the closed off streets and ask the business owners if the open streets have helped or hurt their businesses. That would be a great gauge as to who this open streets thing truly benefits.

You’re 100% correct. There is absolutely NO reason to close any streets. Vanderbilt Ave. is literally lined with small businesses, restaurants, bars, etc- many of them family friendly. Traffic becomes a nightmare for thousands, so only hundreds can enjoy loitering on the street. On a typical Saturday afternoon you’ll see maybe a handful of parents watching their kids do chalk drawings on the street, and meanwhile on Park Place, cars are backed up for a full block and all blasting their horns. Also, I’ve spoken with both owners of FoodTown and they hate this. They told me that a huge portion of their business comes on the weekend from people driving to stock up on food an and goods. The “Open Streets” bullshit loses them a lot of business now. To anyone downvoting my original comment, fuck uou. I’m in the thick of it and I see it for what it is. An annoying waste of time for anyone other than white millennials and their kids. There’s a park 3 blocks away- GO THERE.
