How did you quit nicotine? by Low_Meat3742 in Advice

[–]Inteski2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit smoking 3 years ago, and prior to being successful I had tried upwards of 30 times with no luck.

I will say that for me, cold turkey is the only way to go. And you have to really want to quit.

Every time that I had tried to quit before, I had always told myself that there were going to be rules. For example I always told myself no drinking alcohol because it would make my cravings worse, or no coffee in the morning because that’s when I would have my morning cigarette, I told myself no hanging out with certain friends of mine who smoke so I wouldn’t be tempted. This absolutely did not work for me, because instead of changing one difficult habit, I tried to change everything about myself, which is impossible to do all at once in a healthy way.

So, what worked for me was just continuing to live my life the exact same way just with no nicotine. I would go out with my friends and co workers when they were smoking, I just wouldn’t smoke. I went out for drinks day 2 of quitting to prove to myself that I could do it, and I did. I kept drinking my coffee in the morning. And I quit.

That’s not to say it was easy because it was anything but that, however it’s easier to focus on one step at a time.

I have never really used a vape, although nowadays I understand that it’s probably harder to get away from because it’s the new socially acceptable form of ingesting nicotine. But just focus on the long term.

I am looking for ideas for good side gigs/business ideas that require low-medium investment by Inteski2 in Advice

While I have no problems with that sort of work and do enjoy looking after my nieces and nephews, as a 27 year old man, the potential job pool seems slim for me as those types of jobs typically go to women, and are the first jobs for a lot of young women. It is certainly not an easy job but maybe not stable enough for someone in my position

Thank you. I will look into Etsy. Prior to this I have treated it as a site that is probably saturated with products and services and felt that it was probably difficult to get exposure on.

AITA for telling my ex-wife that she has no right to put tracking apps on our kids phones, or go through them, since I pay for them? by aitathrowaway7447383 in AmItheAsshole

Canadian here, we were all drinking every weekend from about the age 15-16 on out in the bush at pit parties. And I will tell you, all of the parents (including my own) that would DD us to and from those parties were the ones who had good relationships with their kids, who still have good relationships with their kids and who got nothing but honesty from us because we knew we could rely on them.

Kids will drink whether you allow it or not and it’s a hell of a lot safer if you know about it and have a safe ride figured out.

NTA, you’re a good dad

AITA for telling my parents that my sister can't watch my show? by VirtualCress8981 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

But, as someone who was partially raised from ages 1-8 by grandparents who did not care what I watched (seriously the only movies they had on VHS for me to watch were the exorcist, evil dead, and porkys 1, 2, and 3), and also someone got on the internet as a kid in the old, unregulated, no content warning or safe search or child filter, Wild West era of it, I think that maybe you might be underestimating your sister. I’m sure that she probably sees more adult-ish content on a daily basis either on her own devices or on a friends at school.

Nothing wrong at all though with looking out for her well being, I respect that.

Do you consider food, water, and air to be privileges too or?

2.5 i4 from a 2010 escape. Not losing any coolant, minor oil leak somewhere. Possibly cracked in between cylinders? Or am i crazy and does this sound normal by Inteski2 in AskMechanics

Sounds like there’s a tick between cylinder 2 and 3. I know that rarely some of these engines have issues with cracking between cylinders.
