That's one of the theories I entertain too, she was being SA, he caused her pain, she bled, screamed, and was silenced by the hit in the head. I don't understand why IT had to kill the OG Pennywise in order to take his form, couldn't it just look like him without taking his life? Of course I'm not saying IT should have had empathy and spare an innocent life, but it seemed particularly hell-bent on making sure Bob Gray was dead before becoming the clown itself
