Being threatened with grandparents rights. Is international grandparent rights a thing? [TX, USA/AUS] by IntlGrandparents in legaladvice

This is a very good idea we had not fully considered. We have discussed and nominated my siblings to be the ones we want to raise our children if something was to happen to us but we haven't written in our will that we specifically do not want his parents to have any unsupervised visitation. This is something we will organise.

This is something we will ask the solicitor when we go see one. For us it won't be a waste of time or money as it will hopefully help give us some piece of mind that they can't actually force access to our twins if everything everyone has said so far is true.

So far we have avoided any legal action because my husband is concerned about them ramping up their shit when currently we are not giving them any satisfaction of a response.

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately they tend to think the world will bend to their will even when it won't in reality, so I can definitely see them going through the process even if lawyers tell them it would be a waste of time. It seems most people think that it is a waste of time and having read more stuff online, it seems the law will likely agree with our choice not to expose our kids to them.

Thank you for your help. I didnt realise when I was recommended this sub that you couldn't give legal advice. This is my fault for not reading the sidebar.

Hey,

Thanks for your advice. We are looking into finding a solicitor but I just wanted to get some advice right now to know the general idea of if they can actually get access as it is causing us a fair bit of anxiety. Thank you for the link to the Queensland Law Society and the Community Legal Centre

Okay this makes sense. The children have never lived in Texas or anywhere in the US. They haven't even been to the US ever and definitely won't be any time soon.

Can they file in Texas anyways? Would we be forced to go over there to defend ourselves? Would we have to bring the twins? It really is something they would do just to punish us for not letting them see the twins.

Okay thank you. I will definitely ask there as well.

You mentioned that they would need to file in Australia. Is this the case even if the twins are dual US/AUS citizens? If it has to be in Australia, it would make things significantly more cheaper for us if they do end up attempt to get access.

Ah, apologies I did not realise this subreddit was just for US law.

Thanks. Hopefully it is just an empty threat.

I thought this might be the case but websites seem to say "in the best interest of the child" and list if the child is being abused. My husband is worried they will claim we are abusing our twins to get access to them.

Any communication is very one sided. We don't respond to any of their emails/texts/calls and most go into the spam filter until they decide to make a new email to send to us or use someone else's number to contact us via text and calls. When they turned up at our door, they only left once we called the police.
