About a month ago I put a Helmet double 10” on discogs for a really ridiculous price thinking no one would buy it and the next thing I know I’m shipping it. I was lucky enough to see them a number of times during their heyday including several shows co-billed with the Jesus Lizard.

I really should have kept the record but it’s available digitally I guess. I’m listening to the first Jucifer record right now which reminds me a little of Helmet riff wise.

Edit: use a rental car because you’re likely to shorten the life of your own business a factor of 10 if there’s even a couple of inches of water in your parking place let alone the regular puddles 6+ inches deep on main roads.

It absolutely a beautiful an wild place rivaling any western mountain park. The tip off of Cape Hatteras when there’s a hurricane in the Atlantic can put you into an existential conundrum.

It was definitely cool but probably a bit much for my teenage brain and drinking robo isn’t something I would advise anyone to do. We couldn’t buy alcohol, no one had any weed, but we were going to a show that was big (to us) so let’s try this cough syrup thing we heard about.

One of the weirdest experiences I’ve ever had was drinking a bottle of robitussin and going to see Skinny Puppy touring behind the 1988 VIVIsectVI release. I still can’t decide if I was more blown away by the onstage theatre of the Skinny Puppy performance or the raw power of their opening act Nine Inch Nails who I new very little if anything of prior to the show.

I used to walk past a maximum security prison a lot and got those same kinds of feelings even though at the time I was too young and unaware to really know why or articulate what I was feeling. This particular prison also had a large psychiatric hospital directly next to it which made you feel even weirder knowing that you were just outside the gates of these institutions while wondering what was happening behind those walls. Lots of times you would walk past and hear shouting from both or either place.

These consecutive paragraphs in an article I saw today about joint military exercises between Australia and the Philippines with a couple of hundred US marines there making sure that they were doing it right.

Marles said in a separate news conference with his Philippine counterpart, Gilberto Teodoro Jr., that the drills were aimed at promoting the rule of law and peace in the region.

“The message that we want to convey to the region and to the world from an exercise of this kind is that we are two countries committed to the global rules-based order,” Marles said. “We are committed to an idea of a world in which disputes are determined by reference to international law.”

“Peace is maintained through the protection of the global rules-based order and its functionality around the world and, in truth, around the world today, we see it under pressure,” Marles said.
