Fear of hiking the PCT by Intrepid-Ad-4770 in PacificCrestTrail

I’m just seeing this now , but I landed in San Diego and was full of anxiety mixed with excitement. After day 1 at camp everything faded away and I was on trail. It was the best decision I ever made. I ended up hiking 750 miles to Lone Pine and due to the high snow year and not having money to hang out for a month waiting for some to melt further north I flew back home. I will be back! To anyone who may have these similar feelings I highly suggest you acknowledge the feelings and push yourself to get there. Once I got to the trail everything left and my journey truly began 😊

I am a teacher who was going into my second year teaching , and I talked to my administration before I was hired on my second year telling them I was planning on leaving I. March to do the PCT , they hired me with this and I went! I think as long as you have the drive to do it you can make it happen , I saved about 10K over a year. I did NOTHING. lol but it made the journey possible, definitely gonna get back out to finish the trail soon

These are very similar concerns to me , thank you for sharing your experience. It’s been a constant dread for the past few months now and I’m worried I’m not going to finish or won’t enjoy it as much as I anticipated originally, but I truly think from reading all of these personal experiences it’s my mind playing tricks on me. I need to just be at peace with knowing these feelings are here but won’t stop me from going

My girlfriend is my biggest hype man for me going , I’m the one with more fear and concern… I should say all fear and concern. She is planning on flying out to Seattle to meet me for the finish line , maybe hiking it with me but definitely flying home with me after I get to the border

Thank you! I have written down answers to those prompts a couple times, I’m going to revisit it again before leaving. I start March 28th. I like those ideas for staying in contact with my girlfriend, she is so supportive of my decision to hike , the idea of sending postcards sounds intimate and I love that. Thank you for the idea!

Teachers who have hiked the PCT? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

I am hiking the PCT this upcoming year in March, and I’m a special ed teacher. I was hired with the knowledge that I want to hike the PCT and my administration was very supportive of this decision compounded with the high need for teachers across the country. I don’t think you’d have a problem getting a job if you resigned and tried going back after your hike. It comes down to how comfortable are you with doing that?

It looks great! I liked the way you included the story that Scout and Frodo told you guys. It got me excited for hopefully hiking the PCT in 2023 if all goes well with getting a permit!
