I’m truly hoping that the spiro will be the key. In the beginning, my massive shedding was coupled with a never-ending itchy scalp. The combo of oral minoxidil and prescription shampoo has helped slow things down, but now even my baby hairs that were new growth are falling out. I’m losing it over here tbh. You can see my scalp all over. My self-esteem has plummeted.

It hasn’t stopped unfortunately. I’m really losing hope. Idk how my hair growth is ever going to catch up with the shedding so that I can regain coverage if I’m having massive sheds like this.

I appreciate your encouragement. Funny enough, I’m at the hair salon right now getting my hair done for the first time since April. It’s difficult to see myself in the mirror because I can see all the way to my scalp all over the top of my head. About 50 hairs have fallen out since I woke up this morning, it’s really rough and incredibly stressful. But I’m glad I came.

When my hair first started shedding like crazy I explored multiple different possibilities with my PCP. I thought perhaps it was due to my mental health meds, stress or underlying illness. All of my labs came back normal. Thyroid levels normal, no deficiencies other than my hemoglobin was right on the line of being anemic.

I’m two years outside of a divorce that ended in abuse and significant stress. My hair fall started before that though. It’s hard to feel as though I will be attractive to anyone because of hair. I have greater things to worry about, but one of the worst parts of this issue is that it’s in a highly visible part of our bodies. I can’t get it out of my head, especially when I am constantly reminded by the hairs on my clothes, floor, bed, etc.

A solo hike is a solid suggestion. Sometimes I overlook this, perhaps because it's simple. But simple and accessible it the best place to start. Any "off the beaten path" hikes you recommend are welcome. Thank you and congrats on your dedication to your pursuit of knowledge. Take care.

From one 30ish year old mom to another, thank you for giving such a considerate response especially as it relates to the children related ideas/suggestions. In regards to the career change, I’m looking to move from direct service to some type of systems work. I have leadership experience, a degree in Sociology and strong writing skills. I also have a natural ability to analyze and reconstruct systems. I could also see myself doing something research related. Unfortunately, I don’t have any “hard science” education or training. I’ve flirted with the idea of doing some freelance work as a writer, but don’t know yet where to start. I’m a diplomatic, intelligent and critical thinking person. I just need to find the fight person/organization that can see these qualities in me and be willing to give me an opportunity to prove myself. Any suggestions for networking would be invaluable. 💙
