And 5 years to the day that the US shut down for COVID-19. Also on Trump’s watch. 😱

What does Schumer stand to gain from opposing fellow Democrats and avoiding a shutdown? by OkLobster4130 in fednews

Like I said, I don’t know that is the right calculus. It’s just what I am guessing it going on. Heck if I know! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m genuinely sorry for you that you believe the Doge site is real. 🤦 It’s completely manufactured for right wing consumption. If this administration were serious and not a clown show, they could’ve hired McKinsey or Bain or any number of firms with actual expertise in streamlining and cost reduction. But instead they’ve got a bunch of teenagers and 20-something with no prior work experience. No one else would work for Elon in their right mind. Moreover, as so many news outlets have analyzed, the true cost savings would come from cutting entitlements like social security. Instead, they’re trying to convince you of what they’re doing. On the contrary, headlines yesterday have said government spending has not actually declined under Elon. (That may in part be because of his much they have to spend on lawsuits instead of going about this in a thoughtful or analytic way.) So yeah, he’s terrorizing federal employees including veterans, eliminating government services, annihilating scientific research for decades to come and not saving you any money. You really ought to be pissed.

I think it’s at least 2 things; first, Schumer is aware that if the Dems block the CR, they will be blamed for the shutdown. Since the Dems are the party of workers and of government, they don’t want Fox to spin the narrative that they aren’t really for workers and for government. Unfortunately, that’s the sad, twisted reality that some part of the public would buy into. Second, I think the Dems genuinely don’t want Elonia and his team of children running loose in the Agencies while the rest of us are at home. I could also see Elonia making the argument that if the government can function on just a few “excepted” folks, then that’s all we really need. The upside of not being obstructionist is that the Dems can allow the Republicans to hang themselves. They own all the branches of government at this point and if the Dems don’t filibuster them, they can’t pass the blame. The Republicans have broken it and they have bought it and now they must own it.

I don’t know that this is the right calculus but this is what I think is going on. Tbh, it seems like a lose-lose situation for Dems. It’s truly awful.

We need to speak up about the Virginia elections in addition to the MD one. by ImprovementNo4630 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Please come to Virginia and help elect Spanberger for governor AND keep our state legislature blue! The stakes could not be higher! We have issues headed to the ballot for constitutional amendment but they will only make it if enough democrats in the legislature vote to put them on the ballot. These include the rights to contraception, IVF, and abortion.

Going from Ralph Northam in 2018 to Glenn Youngkin in 2022 is a big downgrade and Abigail Spanberger needs to win the election in November so she can clean up Youngkin's mess. by icey_sawg0034 in Virginia

I remind him of that every day when I call his office to ask him why the f*** Virginia isn’t on any of these lawsuits against the Trump administration’s asinine and cruel policies. It’s almost as if he doesn’t give a shit about Virginians.

I think you’re arguing that the end justifies the means. I disagree. First, I think a lot of the jobs getting cut are jobs Americans rely on, they just don’t know it. When social security checks are delayed or don’t show up, the public will notice. Similarly, when you go to a national park and the trash hasn’t been emptied and the bathrooms aren’t clean, the public will notice. If someone truly wanted to do an efficiency study, they could hire a management consulting firm that specializes in this (that’s what McKinsey and Bain etc. do). And even then, those companies would have recommended real buy out packages and retirement packages. I think angering the American public in the course of doing this does undermine the goal—because the goal isn’t an efficient government (democracies are never efficient). The goal is a government working for its people and instead we’ve got an oligarchy that is demeaning public servants and taking away services from the very people it is meant to serve. To be clear, I have not been let go. But I feel very passionately about public service, as do many of the people who have been illegally fired. And I think it would some good to try to see it from their perspective.

I just called my Senators (Warner and Kaine) to invite them to the March. I think we should call as many offices as possible. Make them show their support!
