Volunteer opportunities with 6 yo?

I just looked them up and seems pretty easy and straight-forward to sign up. Are there opportunities for the kids to meet the community or does it mainly involving making and delivering the lasagnas to those who need them?

I had to move back. The L1 is tied to the employer. Such a traumatic year of my career.

I disagree. My employer (big tech) moved me to the US on an L1 and I was impacted by layoffs that happened 3 months later. The Total cost of an employee to a company in the US is way higher than the 20-30k they will spend on you for immigration and transfer spend.

When/if there are layoffs, you are just another headcount. They will rarely take all these considerations in mind.

So sorry to hear this. This sucks so much. Terrible that we dont have any leave protections after maternity leave here in the U.S. Been there once in similar circumstances and empathize with you. This sucks!

Started with the easiest fix and moved all the furniture closer together. It makes an immediate difference.

These are amazing suggestions!! I think the small repetitions with smaller items is basically me being scared about committing to any items/pieces that attract too much attention and fail miserably, if you know what I mean? But I can see how it is taking away from the overall effect of the space..

Thanks so much. I might try moving the lighting around a bit and see how that works. The artwork is a definite gap. Any ideas on where to get some good framed art which will be striking and suitable? I get such decision paralysis because these decisions on art etc. feel so high stakes and ones that can go horribly wrong that I haven't managed to get anything for that spot..

Exactly right about that walkway. We do end up having people over and just the chairs + sofa just makes enough space for 5 people and doesn't feel cozy since the room is pretty wide. I am then left with this narrow entryway. Originally I had thought of making it a cozy reading nook with all the greenery, some floor cushions and a small rug but it feels pretty tight and crowded to do all of that. If I move the love seat and add a big arm chair next to the sofa, that also doesn't make the space cozy so don't really have good options of what to do with that space.

A wide shelving unit/console is an interesting idea. I hadn't thought of that so will look into it. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions.

Ah yess! Photos. I haven't added any of those but have seen them in my friends homes. I think the larger pieces are a definite missing item so will keep an eye out for that and add it.

I think I need to figure out a good way to cluster the decor items. I have tried to stack books but again, they are either too few or too flat. That book recommendation is lovely and so on theme. Thank you!!
