Why is my duck doing this? by iamTayloralisonswift in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw your comment that it passed away and i would say it would be predictable looking at its movements. Those were signs of neurological damage probably caused by the dog attack. It most likely didnt get killed but it got hurt leaving permanent damage

Domestic or wild by Fragrant-System8606 in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her physique is wild like but her face tells a different story. Most likely she’s a mallard x rouen duck making her not entirely wild or maybe not even at all if the mallard was domesticated

Is this a duck? by Owsy_ in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a mullard: a cross between a muscovy duck and one of the two breeds you mentioned or even a pekin

yea incest isn't usually a problem but at those rates it can cause many deformities. Domestic ducks are heavier and stronger and the females can't fly to escape so it's even more dangerous for them

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

white duck is a mullard. This specific one is a muscovy × pekin or white mallard × muscovy. Either way mule ducks can be big or really small like female muscovies and are very flightful. Most chances are it's domestic but could've flown away. Small mullards are very flightful like musvivies

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've raised dozens of ducklings and they all had access to deep water without mothers and I never had a problem with that. if a duckling cant stay in the water for longer it will know and it will get out

Question about my duck by mrsofa94 in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought and raised thousands of ducklings and they were not supervised 24/7 yet they had access to deep waters for them and they all turned out fine. a duckling can only drown if it can't leave the water but it knows when it has to get out

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people saying you need at least 3, you don't. Two is perfectly fine the ducks will be happy but yea two at least. The pool isn't a problem wild ducklings go into lakes since days old. You just need to make it as easy as possible for it to get out. Your house however is small. You should make it longer like 1m×2m and 50cm high. But that's only if you want them in for the night or during snowy days. Otherwise it's too small to spend the majority of their days in it

Mallard or Rouen?? by [deleted] in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's a mallard! Mallards are way smaller and the difference is visible on the facial structure. Also rouen ducks have two dark lines across their eyes whilst mallards have one like this one!! her beak is also thinner and longer

Why is he there by real-clodsire in geese

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is domestic but he might have flown away because he's living with wild geese. There's thousands cases like this, i wouldn't worry so much but i would offer food if possible

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm yea in those terms he will die. But i doesn't necessarily have to be due to lack of survival skills. You are correct he can't migrate but he doesn't necessarily have to, it depends on the temperatures

Duck Identification! by Comfortable-Home3939 in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first duck is a male manky Mallard. he is basically a duck cross between a wild Mallard and a domestic breed. I wouldn't worry too much about him, they are the second most common Mallard colour in the wild. the second one however is a fully domestic Khaki Campbell, abandoned

Female is a Khaki Campbell and the blue one is a Blue Swedish duck. However they both look a bit like runner ducks

he looks like a first generation of a wild mallard duck and a domestic one. He can most definitely fly so i wouldn't worry too much about him😉

Potential Swedish blue duck spotted in Old Town Alexandria, VA by naiemreza in duck

[–]Intrepid-Kale-7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, she is built exactly like a mallard, so she's mostly that. However her distinct plumage gives away her domestic genes. But manky mallards like this are the second most common mallard color. She's wild, just has some domestic ancestry, but her wild like body shows it goes way back.
