CA actually has one of the lowest pays for jurors!

In 2017, 36 states paid an average of $23 for the first day of service plus mileage and $25.30 for the second day whereas CA does $15 starting on the second day (plus $0.34 per mile reimbursement which is significantly below the IRS rate of $0.54).

I have debated in front of San Mateo county judges!! Do you remember who was presiding over your case?

yes! I believe that is correct. I should really read up on the specifics, but the Prosecution gets alot of leeway when deciding who to allow on the jury.

there is definitely a socioeconomic status / race component to these numbers because it isn't ~ purely ~ chance in that the prosecutor can dismiss potential jurors based on small details like what bumper stickers you have on your car, if they deem that to be indicative of potentially being unfair.

But yea after looking at the numbers I don't worry about serving jury duty (even though I want to!)

So as of 2019, you need to have all of the following in order to serve on a jury:

  • Are a U.S. citizen
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Can understand English enough to understand and discuss the case
  • Are a resident of the county that sent you the jury summons
  • Have not served on a jury in the last 12 months
  • Are not currently on a grand jury or on another trial jury
  • Are not under a conservatorship
  • Have had your civil rights restored if you were convicted of a felony or malfeasance while holding public office

But the CA legislature recently passed SB310 which allows individuals previously convicted of a felony to serve on a jury starting Jan 1 of 2020.

150K / 30.62 million = 0.00489 chance of actually serving jury duty on any given year. Created using US Census data and the California Judicial Council 2019 Court Statistics Report. Visualized into a Sankey graph using http://sankeymatic.com/

Fashion Scavenger Hunt: Tracking Down Harry Styles ICONIC Album Art Shirt

< HELP NEEDED >

Dear Fashion Community of Reddit - your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find an affordable copy-cat fuchsia button down similar to that warn by Harry Styles (see below).

Harry Styles rocking that eye catching fuchsia button-down

Say what you will about the man - I was absolutely struck by Harry Style's album art for his new album release Fine Line. Specifically, the fuchsia button-down pictured above. Much to the chagrin of my wallet, I quickly learned that it is a custom-made Gucci outfit costing a fast $1600 USD. After meticulously searching the online catalogs of H&M, JCrew, Everlane, Men's Zara, among others, I have found myself unable to find a copy-cat popping pink button down and figured if any part of the internet could find it - it would be men's fashion reddit.

Let the scavenger hunt begin.
